People to Thank for Where We Are Now

Mcfcbob for starting this excellent thread.... ok not really but good on ya bob anyway. I think everyone has covered all my suggestions but if i was pressed i'd have to say Paul Dickov. If he hadn't of banged in that goal we might well be doing a Notts Forest or Leeds Utd right now instead of challenging for the top 6 with a very wealthy owner.

emile mpenza

those 2 goals late season under Pearce. Think we had 30 points coming up toward Easter, he scored at Boro & Newcastle in successive away games we won.

If we'd gone down that season.....

Stuart Pearce for me, for having to sell £50M worth of players and still keeping us up.

You know what, that picture should be pinned to each players kit tomorrow, so they understand how shit we actually were, and how far we've come. Just under 11 years ago that picture was the epitomy of what being a blue was all about, player or fan, ecstasy was about winning (well drawing) a 3rd place play off in the 3rd tier of the english league.

I doubt Mancini, or any of the players (apart from SWP) have a f**king clue how low that was (well 5 minutes before that picture anyway), if only they did, they'd know how much victory tomorrow would mean to the supporters of the club, not the beating of united (important as that is), but the putting of 4 clear points between us and Spurs before they play again.

i was about to head to bed but i think ill watch the gillingham highlights again on youtube just to remind myself just how far we've come in 11 years!!

Nicky Weaver. Without him, we could be....well....it doesn't bear thinking about:

God bless the lad and god bless that team. This makes my eyes glaze over now, and the tribute to the fans at the end, from the players is excellent. Happy I was at this match, because hopefully I will see both ends of the spectrum in my lifetime!

Most of the ones I've thought of have already been mentioned, ie. Kinkladze, Weaver, Dickov, Goater, Rosler, Lee, Bell, Trautmann...

But there must be a place in our Hall of Fame for Marc-Vivien Foe (RIP).
