Pep Guardiola - 2019/20 Performances

I've long thought that Pep needs a Director of Football who'll challenge him robustly after nights like tonight. Creative tension if you like, where the coach has to justify his decisions or be told he was wrong in no uncertain terms. I don't think it works when the DoF is your mate. I wonder how much 'groupthink' there is among the coaching team.
Spot on, Arteta was brilliant working with Pep, both worked well together. Don't know too much about Lillo, but we need his assistant not be afraid to put him right on certain things and tactics.

We're one of the biggest clubs in the world nowadays and imo Pep is as lucky to have us, as we are to have him
Nail on head my friend.

I love Pep, but if he refuses to fucking learn we have to find someone who will. League wise he has been fine. 2 great seasons, and 2 difficult ones is acceptable in the environment the PL is.

Yesterday though was unforgivable, simply because we have seen it every year under him. Never thought we would bow out to a shitter side than that Spurs side but our inferiority complex in europe never stops surprising

Considering the support he has received from the board in terms of player recruitment it’s very disappointing that he hasn’t managed to at least equal what Pellegrini achieved in Europe in his last season with a much weaker side.

Yes, we got shafted by the officials and were very unlucky in general every year but we really should have made it past all four of Monaco, Liverpool, Spurs and Lyon. Part of the blame has to rest with him

The more I look at it the more ridiculous his decisions are last night.
  • 3-5-2 formation, something we haven’t played in a long, long time, just expects the players to adapt to it again in CL Quarter-final.
  • Starts Eric Garcia, a player that just told you he wants to leave and won’t sign a new deal
  • Has one of the best squads in world football, allowed to make 5 subs, only makes 2 out of 5 available substitutions.
  • Waits until the 84th minute to make the second sub, after Lyon already changed 3 players and took a 2-1 lead
  • Doesn’t give Foden one minute, one of our best players since the restart.
  • Doesn’t give Bernardo one minute, someone who is full of energy
  • Starts Gundogan and Rodri together in midfield, a combination that gives us one of our lowest win percentages.
  • Instead of starting Mendy someone who excels in a 352 and is actually left footed, he starts Cancelo.

I totally support Pep being our manager & hope it's for a long long time, but there is no getting around the fact, & it is a 'fact', that last night, he made an absolute fucking arsehole of it.

I actually think it was one of the worst managerial nights ever, by anyone.

You got a like from me but I thought Cancelo played as well as anyone of our players

10 months left on his contract, I suspect we'll give him one more chance in the Champions League before deciding whether to renew his contract. I don't even think he has to win it, just allow his players to play with a bit of fucking pride.

Not using subs is criminal. I couldn't believe it at the time and now on reflection its even worse.
Id love to know just what he thought would happen if took off Gundogan and Rodri for Bernardo and Foden? we would lose 3-1 instead of 2-1 (Oops.)

Desperate for a goal and you put on Mahrez who I don't even remember touching the ball and then sit back and think, thats it I can't do anymore.

Maybe not Liverpool. As they genuinely gave us problems. But Peregrini would have gotten past the other 3.

Agree with all the apart from the Mendy bit at the end, he has made far to many fuck ups this season.
