Maybe it stops Arteta from leaving for the Arse? But I doubt Arteta gets it over Ancelotti or Allegri, if they’re interested.

How does it help the club to brief the media that Pep might leave after this season? What's the point?

To prompt a reaction from the players? To give a public signal to someone, say Pochettino or Arteta, he might get the job in the summer?

Might make Pep say definitively hes staying in his presser today? Kill any rumours.

Matt Lawton, who, apparently, broke the break-clause stort, was on Talkshite this morning refusing to say anything about his source so it's unlikely to be the club briefing.

That said, I'd have been amazed if his contract didn't have a break clause. I'd go further and say no manager should ever see out his contract. Ferguson tried to do that once and the players were so half-arsed in his last season, he had to retract his notice and extend his contract.

Pep is the best manager in football history and has managed our team whilst we have broken record after record but he is not bigger than the club as the media likes to believe. We won the league under Mancini and Pellegrini and we'll win it again under someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes at the end of the season nor that the media will focus on his "failure" to win the CL (assuming we don't). But it won't be the end of City as it will be represented.

The minute it is clear a manager is finishing at the end of the season, well before the season ends, is the best signal for a club-wide collapse.

Maybe just maybe it’s a made up lie by the press to undermine City, it wouldn’t be the first time would it and it won’t be the last, remember Pep was going to Juventus last season. Cocks like Jamie O’Hara saying Pep hasn’t been a total failure, what the fuck does that mean, has he been a failure, no he has been excellent, any club in the world would love him as their coach.

Designed to unstable us & put doubt in the players minds , another attack on the club & this bastard will be sat there at our next home game getting the very best of our hospitality, City are shithouses , they should just ban these fuckers it can’t do any more harm .

Fairly certain multiple media outlets didn't make up exactly the same story out of thin air then conspire to release it during the general election results, but hey, that's a theory.
