He's had four years to sort it out and we're still nowhere near having anything close to resembling a defence.

He can whinge about not getting Maguire as much as he wants but that wouldn't sort it out. Weaknesses of current players simply aren't being worked on effectively and those players aren't being held responsible for consistently making the same bad decisions.

Otamendi is an absolute fucking brain-dead moron and I don't even know where you'd start with him other than not playing him. I'd genuinely rather see lettuce on the team sheet. He belongs at a team who play three at the back and where the other two centrebacks cover him while he runs around like a fat dog with ADHD. But that's the player he is and we've had about five years of watching him do the same shit time after time so it's on Pep for continuing to pick him.

Walker can't hold a defensive line. Amongst various other brainfarts, I would have thought this is absolutely imperative and something the coaches would insist on the players getting right.

We've got zero fullbacks who can defend well consistently and, to be perfectly honest, they're limited going forward, too. Their natural abilities are what they are but I don't think a single one of them has improved since coming to us.

We still can't defend as a cohesive unit and that's down to coaching.

Were all angry mate, me more than others but weve just retained the premier league only last season.

I agree with you its down to coaching, but again Pep for me made the wrong substitutions, taking off Kev for Gundog, was just wrong.

And imo thats where we lost the game. Whoever is the defensive coach wants sacking asap though.

Couldn't agree more with regards to the subs but Pep's game management is another weakness he's shown time after time.

Part of the frustration is that we robbed ourselves of an unlikely victory yesterday. Even after going down to ten, the individual quality of some of our attacking players (and a healthy dose of luck) put us two goals up.

With a bit of defensive solidarity and smart game management, we'd have seen it through.

Look at our defensive record over the last 2 years and it's clear that this is just a knee-jerk reaction. We have lost both Kompany and Laporte, two CBs instrumental in our defensive record over two title winning seasons. That's the issue! This narrative of whole scale changes from all defensive personnel to our coaching is just reactionary of the highest degree. Once we are able to get Laporte back fit and bring a CB to step in place of Otamendi, it'll be night and day.

For me it is coaching your right, i cant remember the last time we conceded 3 goals against any opposition in a 2nd half of a game.

Our backroom staff, players and Pep need to take a long hard look in the mirror, as to why they didnt see this out.

But its not the first time, Newcastle away, we score first 5 mins later they equalise, last night we get a second 2-0, 5 mins later its 2-1
herein lies the problems concentration and leadership.

It's not reactionary in the slightest. The defence is shit and has been shit since before he turned up. Our domination of possession and individual quality from the likes of Kompany and Laporte have masked that.

We are so fragile when things aren't going our way, it's unreal.

When Laporte comes back and were still losing games, what are you gonna say then ? its not as simple as getting Laporte back, defensive structure isnt right.

Whether it's our domination of the ball or defensive personnel, the ends are the same and that's what matters. We were able to show over two full seasons that we can get clean sheets consistently; the key variable is the loss of two key defensive players and that's where the analysis must begin. Do you think we'd be as fragile with them in our side or replaced sufficiently? If yes, the answer is clearly reinforcements and, if not, there's a much deeper issue but I think that's the key reason here.

I think it's a multitude of reasons but none is bigger than the loss of two of our best CBs. No team would cope well and we've tried to fill that gap by using players clearly not close to that quality or players that should be in the middle of the park.
