Think about the consequences of saying it'a a "dead rubber" and that he is going to field an under strength side tomorrow while Marseilles & Olympiacos are both on 3 points and competing for a Europa League place. Another excuse for UEFA to fine us. How often has Pep talked about respecting opponents and competitions ? almost every game. There is no contradiction in saying he's going all out to win, that's what he always does and he will pick a team he thinks can win against Marseilles, like he does for Carabao games or early FA Cup games, that team may be a different team than last Saturday or next Sunday, but he is not sending out the under 16's trying not to win.I watched it and I watched more contradictions. He said we don’t have two teams and he won’t rotate for the sake of it and he’s not thinking about the derby and he’s going all out to win. All whilst already announced that the reserve keeper will be playing. All whilst Foden has played the last 5 CL games and 0 of the last 6 PL games.
Nobody doubts that he’s not an absolute genius and we’re very grateful he’s here. But he contradicts himself constantly. You might think the journalists ask silly questions but sometimes he could just be honest and say ‘yeah tomorrow is a dead rubber that we really want to win but I will be making a number of changes ahead of a tough December of fixtures’? We all know that at least 8/9 if not all of the players from Saturday won’t play and we all know that at least 8/9 if not all of them will then come back for Saturday. Charades is best played later in December.
