One could argue that if we actually started playing Garcia earlier he maybe would have signed a new contract.

I think that'd be a pretty harsh argument. He's had a fantastic amount of play time for a teenage centre-back at one of the biggest clubs in the world. There's no way he could've reasonably expected more.

I don't see how taking them away from an EDS game, to have them sat on the first team bench, while Gundogan,Mahrez and Sterling get unnecessary minutes, comes under the justifiable banner?
His priorities are clearly the league and CL and the kids should get their chance in the domestic cups. Regarding last night, I suspect he hasn't yet decided all the candidates for the Derby and wanted to see players impress or get more minutes in their legs as we have a busy schedule coming up.

I know people thought last night was a dead rubber and in terms of that particular game, we would mostly all agree, but in terms of what lies ahead, I believe Pep is looking at a bigger picture.

Agree. I think he is over rated and want to see less of him. Minutes on the pitch are precious for squad players as much as academy players. John Stones currently demonstrating that players on the fringe can come good if they get the chance - and a chance needs to be more than 5 or 10 mins. In picking Stones or Garcia last night Pep has to assess what is the best option for the team longer term, for me I would have gone with Stones from the start last night, Pep obviously thinks Garcia has a role to play this year. I just dont see it, he is clearly 5th best and leaving anyway. But who are any of us to question Pep.

Things change. I'm sure he might've intended to play them at some point. Genuinely. Then during the game he might have decided that actually, no - he wants the players to focus. It wasn't a great first 45 imo - one paced, bit boring. So maybe he wanted the team to show something in the second half. Firmly stamp home that improved recent confidence, go for more goals, get more minutes, be ruthless. Looked to me that he felt that he had to send a message to the players that there can be no drop off as they look to find their form. You don't have to agree, but it's not without logic.

I don't think people doubt most of last night's starters but Mahrez and Gundo just weren't necessary whichever way you look at it.

Last night was a perfect opportunity to give youth a chance in a dead rubber game when we'd won the group. Why play Garcia when he wants out? Pep could have started T-HB there had he not played the night before . Why start Gundogan when Doyle could have started with Gundo on the bench? And Palmer could have started to save risking injury to FFS. Garcia went off injured and had to be subbed but still 4 opportunities to give the kids on the bench a much needed run out. He could have given Doyle Palmer Nmecha and Bernabe at least half hour each in the second half with the game sown up, but the stubborn one didn't. Pep is so frustrating sometimes!

Gen Q. Do you really think he is not selecting kids deliberately or do you think he has his genuine reasons?

He played the one academy player that the fans dont want to see - maybe he's a WUM.
