Things change. I'm sure he might've intended to play them at some point. Genuinely. Then during the game he might have decided that actually, no - he wants the players to focus. It wasn't a great first 45 imo - one paced, bit boring. So maybe he wanted the team to show something in the second half. Firmly stamp home that improved recent confidence, go for more goals, get more minutes, be ruthless. Looked to me that he felt that he had to send a message to the players that there can be no drop off as they look to find their form. You don't have to agree, but it's not without logic.
Maybe.....its the best logic to a bizarre situation I've heard yet.

I think that'd be a pretty harsh argument. He's had a fantastic amount of play time for a teenage centre-back at one of the biggest clubs in the world. There's no way he could've reasonably expected more.
Yeah maybe, I remember thinking he was very under-used prior to the lockdown and when we got back and he got loads of playing time he had already made up his mind.

Gen Q. Do you really think he is not selecting kids deliberately or do you think he has his genuine reasons?
Erm, good question. He bangs on about wanting to to use 5 subs in prem games and very rarely uses all 3 which is strange. Has the opportunity to use 5 in CL games but only used 3 last night, 1 through having no choice (Garcia) And leaves all the youngsters on the bench. I think he's ultra cautious and scared of youth letting him down. But how could any youngster have let him down last night? I'm as puzzled as many on why he is so reluctant to give youth a chance in a sewn up dead rubber game : /

As I posted earlier this morning, that particular game could be considered a dead rubber, but not if he was using that game for a bigger picture

That's tantamount to having a blank canvas and not drawing anything I think.
As fans we dont have the big picture and whilst some on here were really upset at not seeing some youngsters get minutes last night doesn't mean Pep is pig headed, ignoring youth or anything else - we simply dont know and I am simply offering an explanation (which may or may not be miles from the mark)

I don't know pal.

I get why some want to see more youth, in an ideal world we would have given minutes to more over the last couple of years.
Truth be told though, for me personally it’s just not a big issue. Certainly not one that has me upset and questioning the manager or accusing him of whatever the in vogue thing is to accuse him of.
I want the squad of 25 to be all chomping at the bit to earn a place in the 11. I want a team that can challenge on all four fronts. And if that means some youngsters aren’t getting the minutes then I can live with that.
I expect over the coming two years we will have 3 maybe 4 youth players starting fairly regularly which would be fantastic to see and probably better or on par with anybody else in the league.
If in that time some move on then so be it. Those showing patience will benefit in the long run.
I’ve no problem with those who disagree, we all have different expectations when it comes to City and the development of players.
I think we can all agree that the main thing is we remain competitive and win trophies. How we get there is down to the management team, who in fairness have rarely let us down the last 10 years.
