Pep Guardiola - 2020/21 Performances

Since his new assistant came in our level of play has gone backwards at quite an alarming rate.

We’re about a third of the way into the league season and he doesn’t seem any nearer to getting any fluency into our attacking play.

I hope he can find a spark from somewhere because at the moment it really feels like he and the team are going through the motions.
Juanma Lillo is credited with pioneering the 4-2-3-1. It has taken time, but slowly Pep has molded the team based on his input. His imprints are all over this team. Since moving to the double pivot, we've conceded 0 goals in 5 games across prem and CL. Have faith in the team. The goals will come, the important thing is that now we're difficult side to score against.

Look at what Rodri said post-match today -

"The performance was alright. I think we had good chances in the match, sometimes they (United) pushed a little bit, but I don't remember any big chances they had. I thought we had two or three big chances, and we had to score these. That's the main point - you're not going to have 20 chances, you'll have two or three. You have to score these chances, that's our weak point in the last matches. That's where we have to work."

We used to be a "20 chances, 3 goals" team. We can't afford to be that anymore because we're playing without Silva, Aguero and Sane. Right now this team has better defensive players than it has attackers and so the tactics must change to play to those strengths.

Last season post-restart we scored more goals and kept more clean sheets than anyone since he came in. Compare that to the start of that season until Arteta left and Lillo comes off better. It's likely that neither had too major of an impact, at least in terms of our play style. That'll still be Pep.

There's absolutely zero evidence that Lillo has had any major effect on the team. Our struggles now I will say with confidence are almost certainly unrelated to him.
Double pivot is apparently a trait of Lillo and something that’s come online since he arrived, so there is a clear impact.

A third of the way into the season, where his input has had time to impact the team because we’re more often than not playing that system, and we’re looking completely lost going forward. We were still kamikaze in defence until Dias came in too.

Pep needs to move the pieces to try to get us back into some sort of fluency.

I just don't buy that, sorry. I think you're trying to piece a puzzle together that doesn't exist.

Some supporters do we have...

Pep's win record so far this season in PL

12 - Wolves
15 - Arsenal
17 - Fulham
18 - Burnley
20 - Sheff United

we are running out of teams below us in the table to play - when do we start the return games and play these teams again.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of posters on the City subreddit there that are under 20, so plenty of them (not all of them though) are wildly emotional and immature, as many a teenager would be. This place has its fair share of emotional folk but not as childish as many of these are. It's why I largely avoid reading it if I can, and it's even more pathetic big brother r/soccer. It might be fine at times but I can't risk trying to bear it. Fairplay to anyone on here who can weather that storm.

Another reason is that the reddit system means that not all posts are created equal. Hot takes that people like get promoted and anything else is hidden. At least on here everyone's post is given the same weight. Everyone has the same voice and it's FAR better for discussion.

If we had much better defensive players now there would be no reason to play a double pivot, as we never required that protection when we had, in his words, better attacking players.

We didn't play a double pivot Against spurs and lost to them because of two counters. Played a double pivot Against Liverpool and should have won that match had KDB scored the penalty and Gabby headed that ball into the net. We should have scored today as two best chances of the game fell to us. One for mahrez and one for KDB
