For all the talk that we apparently need a striker (and don't get me wrong, I think we sort of do need one next season), there aren't very many out-and-out strikers having good seasons in the Premier League this season and the "false #9" thing has spread downwards pretty fast.
Look at the Golden Boot race. Salah's top with 14, he's a winger. Vardy has 9 goals but he's only scored in seven games and only has two goals in his last seven appearances. Jota's next, currently playing false #9. Emmanuel Dennis, another winger/false #9. Ronaldo another player who's been very streaky in the league. Bernardo Silva and Raphinha are both wingers/false #9s. Mane, another winger/false #9. Mount, midfielder. Antonio, very streaky and is currently playing on the wing. And where's Lukaku?
