For all the talk that we apparently need a striker (and don't get me wrong, I think we sort of do need one next season), there aren't very many out-and-out strikers having good seasons in the Premier League this season and the "false #9" thing has spread downwards pretty fast.

Look at the Golden Boot race. Salah's top with 14, he's a winger. Vardy has 9 goals but he's only scored in seven games and only has two goals in his last seven appearances. Jota's next, currently playing false #9. Emmanuel Dennis, another winger/false #9. Ronaldo another player who's been very streaky in the league. Bernardo Silva and Raphinha are both wingers/false #9s. Mane, another winger/false #9. Mount, midfielder. Antonio, very streaky and is currently playing on the wing. And where's Lukaku?

Just when we think Pep's done influencing the game in England, here we are again.

When asked about players not playing yesterday, he didn’t mention rotation like he usually does - he said that he pays attention to both on and off field behaviour particularly at Christmas.

Said that those who played yesterday deserved to and those that didn’t, didn’t.

Potentially why we saw players like Stones, Palmer and Ferna come off the bench rather than the other obvious options.
