Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

Its a long list now of those wanting away and those really not up to it. We are in desperate need for a quality left back and a Guardiol type central defender , 2 fast strong partners for Rodri,
I'd bin Grealish, Cancelo, Gomez and Gundogan.. ..Ake ,Akanji, Phillips and Laporte are OK but of mid table quality squad fillers.
I think you are being a bit harsh lumping Laporte in with Ake and Akanji. Laporte is a top-class CB in the same bracket as Stones and Dias and he has proven it time and time again.

I don’t class Brentford Everton and even Fulham as major tests mate and that was in the premier league which is our bread and butter . We are way off it and pep is a major part of it . I get he is our greatest manager and probably the greatest manager ever but he us getting it wrong week in week out and it needs sorting
Paul. Don’t disagree with anything you have written here. Gundo’s comments reported today are bang on. Not excusing anything but after a few years of conquer history shows We were blessed when Ruben came in, coz he’s a leader and galvanised the club.
it’s tricky to keep going, particularly when the going gets really tough like it has this season with the WC.
Pep picked a team against Saints with the derby in mind. The players collectively and individually flopped. Lets hope the players respond.

His management is as bad as some of the players performances at the moment. How he can serve up such boring tactics and performances with the squad he has built is truly baffling. If these performances continue, then true to his word he'll leave at the end of the season.
Yes but you've been posting that since he arrived so doubt we'll be taking anymore notice now than we did then of that view.

We didn’t though.

Chelsea EFL Cup: Ortega Gomez Lewis Palmer and Alvarez started (and in my strongest XI, I wouldn’t have Grealish and he started)

Liverpool EFL Cup: Ortega Lewis and Palmer started, plus it was a game where Mahrez and Haaland needed minutes after not playing for six weeks, others were the only ones available after the World Cup.

Chelsea FA Cup: Ortega Gomez Palmer and Alvarez started.

I also said this back in October:
Post in thread 'Would you accept this scenario?'

‘For one season and one season only, I want to go out of both domestic cup competitions as early as possible to help make either of the above happen.’

So it’s not like I’m saying it after the fact.
Spot on. However, in this one I think Pep went a bridge too far.

Not writing him off totally but Romeo Lavia.. you know the academy kid that Kompany told Pep to sign made him look INVISIBLE yesterday.

When Rodri lost his place in the CL final.. he had had a decent game, but gave the ball away and didn't hustle back against Brighton.

If Rodri's game was 4/10.. what would you give Kalvin's performance last night?

Maybe we should not sugar coat the truth.

If we're winning by 3 goals or losing.. Kalvin seems fine to absorb minutes, but in a competitive game, he's got to do a lot better.
Read my post again and that will tell you what I feel about Phillips. You can’t judge a player who has only played about 150 minutes of football for City.

He got players he wanted? He has say kn everything so he cannot run away because things are getting tougher? He wanted £140m worth of English players who aren't helping so it cannot be blamed on someone else.
He is trying new fancy formations every week which are not working , he has new CB pairing every match, different set of players every match and players playing different positions and tactically aren't able to know what to do. These are his problems, yes players have been out of form but it could be because they don't know what time do

It's not about running away because things are getting tougher. It's about leaving because he's not being listened to, so that someone else can come in and be heard.

It's a moot point because I don't think it will happen. As inconsistent as we've been we've only lost three games all season despite playing Liverpool and Chelsea twice in the cup (winning all three let's remember). We've drawn a few games, we've played badly and we've scraped more results than we'd expect but it's far from a crisis.

Of all the games we play in all the competitions, the league cup is of least importance. He saw last night as a chance to get minutes in the players so, ahead of a tough run, he had a fully fit squad to call upon. I'm sure he still felt we'd beat them last night, but they played really well and we were particularly poor. It was largely down to having so many in new/odd positions, but the majority of them were also particularly shit and you can only partially blame Pep for that.

I'll wait for our next three games as we'll know more about the perceived issues and how things are looking by then. I can't help but feel the majority of players are fatigued from their past endeavours. There aren't many who seem particularly fussed about winning. Gundogan's comments were telling. I guarantee we'll see the fight and spirit once the CL resumes. But if we win that and nowt else, I'll take it.

Hope so mate because if he gets it wrong on Saturday and tinkers he will create one hell of a shitstorm . Do you think the dressing room is happy atm ? Don’t want pep to go and I think he will get it sorted but its the lack of pace which worrying and kdb our talisman and winner is really struggling aswell . Tbh I get why we sold Jesus and sterling as they both missed chances in big ganes but zinchenko is the one that I don’t understand.

I sometimes choke up and think.. we could have had 0 trophies last year were it not for that 5 minute 36 second miracle against Aston Villa.

There're not many killer passes to our strikers as if the midfielders have lost a step. So its cross the ball into the box FC and pray for Haaland to get the ball.

Also there's tons of people saying our players aren't playing in their natural positions..

Maybe just maybe Pep has known the problem all along that they can't play in their "natural" positions. They have to play as part of a system.

Today they all played in their natural positions except Walker and there was no system what-so-ever!

Part 2 of my above post with some more thoughts:

Carrying too many out of form players & an aging midfield.

Without Rodri & Bernardo in midfield we look lost. Our 2 best players this season.

Our defensive record is super bad without Ruben at his best and fittest (was 16 goals conceded in 16 games)

And without Haaland's goals we'd not be top 4. He's papering over major cracks in the team's midfield.

We honestly need left back and at least 2 quality young midfielders who are dynamic and can control the midfield and can carve open defenses.

I think Pep knows this and is trying a system to get us through the season.. and maybe just the CL.

Just gotta say thank you and (I fucking love you)

best years of our lives

When we first met
I could hardly believe
The things that would happen
That we could achieve
So let's be together
For all of our time
We'll go out so thankful
That you are still mine
Oh, makes me want to dance
Oh, it's a new romance
Oh, I look into your eyes
Oh, best years of our lives!
My world's a better place
Cause I know you're mine
This love is so real
And it's no surprise
Come on and say yeah!
I got a song
Yeah!
