No, one thing thats essential to our success is every player must have the intelligence to carry out Peps instructions.
Walker has before with the inverted full back and with little work will this time. If too. if he is going to be used as a third centre back more.Or others will.
Yes , some players do not do well out of position , ky is one of them , they cant all do it and was not great of pep to try and make him two games in a row , nice they can mulitask but some just cant

Not having that. You don't play over 200 times for Guardiola without being able to follow tactical instructions. Walker positionally was good in the first half, he was just trying to force the ball too much because Palace were diligently picking players up and he lacked a bit of patience and crispness with his passing

Second half he was absolutely fine, especially with the ball, even though he was "out of position" playing as a RCB

Walker can do it thats the point, he’s done it before and will do it again. If he couldn’t he wouldn’t be such a regular in the team. Pep hadps made him do it many times it isn’t new.

Did Pep speak at all about the formation we took the lead with? We had Bernie and KDB rotating as a wingback with Foden playing sort of like one on the other side. Alvarez was fairly free, it was really interesting and I could see a 3 at the back being a better formation for us this year if we have the temerity to work it.

Pep will almost always start with two full backs and two centre backs but where the full backs in particular are going to position themselves in possession will vary from game to game and within games, as we saw on Saturday.

If you look at average positions (of starting players) over the whole match, you get a reasonable sense (not perfect) of the variations in formation. These are how I'd sumarise the first four league games:

2-3-5 [or more granular 2-1-2-2-3]
2-3-5 [or maybe [2-5-3]
4-1-5
3-2-4-1

All are variations on a 4-3-3 base.

Pep's embargoed presser is a doozy.

Some humour, some great love for Bernie and Erling but, man, look into his eyes, we know it, but the dude means serious business.

RCB is a role that's not a major difference for him. Arguably, with Cancelo having limited defensive duties, Walker was playing as a hybrid RB/RCB last season anyway.

This season he's been asked to do a much more complicated role. It's a big step up in complexity from his usual roles, even under Pep, and it would not surprise me in the slightest if, while concentrating on his attacking duties in more congested spaces, he's less able to focus on runners behind and so is playing catch up at speeds that are even beyond him.

I don't think this is a new role for him. There are articles from the 17/18 season detailing Walker (and Delph) moving into central midfield in possession. I also don't think he had any issues positionally against Palace; they created absolutely nothing from open play
