Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

He criticised Haaland for not being direct enough in the first half. Erling Haaland. One of the most direct players in the sport and a player Pep's chosen to rely on for almost every game this season.

Does that seem like the kind of guy who had been telling his players to move the ball slowly?
Not really sure how Haaland could be more direct. He keeps making runs and relies on service and the ball being played early. He’s not Mbappe so isn’t going to get the ball, drop a shoulder and dribble past 3 players.

It’s clear to see our style has changed and we’ve been taking less risks when in possession for ages. Foden refusing to take on sometimes slow fullbacks and plenty more examples. Last night 2nd half the handbrake came off and it was great to see. Let’s not delude ourselves that Pep hasn’t been aware of this or has been telling the players to take more risks for the last couple of years. Grealish has mentioned it a few times about when he signed he was told to just keep the ball when possession.

It’s great if Pep has now decided to really get on the front foot again for the 2nd half of the season. Onwards we go.

Thought he was making a point in dropping players who are out of form (foden) or out of form and not seemingly interested (cancelo, walker, arguably Bernardo) last night, and it was a point he was right to make IMO. Hopefully those in question can pull their socks up now and we can kick on

Just seen the quotes from his press conference saying he will leave if he feels like the players aren’t responding to him. He’s been saying it far to much recently, some of the players have definitely got into a slump and Peps not having it from them.

He has been saying that since he got here. Players will leave before pep does. Some of the players have lost the hunger to win not the manager who is demanding they go again.

City as a club demand trophies each year. Whomever has lost the fight for that would need to ask for a transfer.

Pep will have to earn his corn this season , apart from his first season this will be his toughest to get trophies through the door , the Goons have been a surprise package and our players do appear a little complacent over the last few games.
His pressers have been superb in my opinion he has given everyone a kick up the backside players and fans its how everybody reacts which will decide if Pep will see out his contract ,previously the players and fans have always reacted and i expect the same .
COME ON YOU BLUE BOYS

Think Pep is getting close to cracking the fresh challenges of Haaland and FBs and teams sitting in. Whatever this (slightly mad) combo of 4-2-3-1/3-2-4-1 that he's been experimenting with is starting to pay off a bit more consistently, and rather than Mahrez and Grealish looking to get in behind they're picking up the ball in front of the defenders and having room to run into or to free up "free" role that either Kev or Alvarez have been playing. Finding the right balance of control and attacking play.

Seems like he has massively lost his way.

He doesnt know his best 11 or the best system, and individuals are struggling. Its no wonder the rumours of discontent are circulating,i cant imagine some are happy playing such negative and rudderless football.

Beaten Liverpool, Chelsea twice, Spurs and Arsenal of late.

Crises….what crises?

Season is warming up nicely and promises to deliver what we have now come to expect.

Trophies!

Thanks Pep.

We are on very different pages.

Our football is dreadful, its a million miles from the brilliance we have come to expect, and while some of that may have spoiled me/us.....we should not be playing this backwards/sideways/negative shite.

That first half last night, against an Arsenal B team, was fucking painful.

Pep looked a bit dejected in the post-match interview. He knows it was a poor performance for our standards. We played virtually our best XI *now* (given the current status of Bernardo, Laporte and Cancelo, even Walker), but we were outplayed in the first half by Arsenal in spite of them playing with 6 changes...

What can/should Pep do? It's imperative that the squad gets more united and the team spirit improves. Even if we have the best players in the world, we stand no chance if the atmosphere in the camp is not good.

We have just beaten the allegedly best team in England mate. We have been disrupted by injury and lack of individual form following the world cup as well as learning to play with the best striker in the world rather than a false 9.

'Negative and rudderless'? You are better than that.

It’s a crazy season with the World Cup and us finally having a striker who we are trying to make the focal point whilst still enjoying everyone else pitching in with goals as they have done for years.

We will get there imo, Pep will sort it out and it might not be the prettiest right now but we are grinding the results out.
