"Joshep, this ish Johan calling from the other shide. Joshep, go back and watch the 2023 home matchesh againsht Madrid Liverpool and Bayern. That wash Total Football my shon. Tell the new man to buy hungry young playersh that can play that shyshtem."

Some interesting comments below about the way pep wants to play.

A lot of slow midfielders who cannot go box to box. That’s what is happening.

Will he change? Going by those quotes I don’t think so.

Levels of it though mate aren’t there. KDB, Gundo and Bernie could all press well a few years ago. Pep wouldn’t have Yaya because he was unfit and couldn’t run anymore but he’d have still probably blitzed our current lot. Not much he can do about it though with Rodders done and even Kovacic out for weeks?

Aside from something really radical like Grealish and Foden as 8’s but that’s highly unlike and i’m not trying to say it would work either. Just couldn’t be any worse than what we’re currently seeing.

I can’t believe he needed another defeat in a row with this tactic.
It was Rodri exposed last year and now he let Gundo to be only midfielder in the squad with Rico playing brain fart position. And it was 0:4, Pep. 0:4. Not 0:1, 1:2.
A 0:4.

I am not optimistic he will change something. He doesn’t seem to be a kind of a manager for these situations.

Unless KDB gives us some magic….

it was mentioned the dressing room had a big talk before the Sporting game about some things not working. media reported it it was kind of like clear the air talk which we had a few last seasons and ended up with titles.

now next game Sporting ripped us a new one. then Brighton gave us a beating too. then 2 weeks off, everbody could put it into context come back with new energy and boom at home despite the Rodri celebration and Pep contract news 0-4 vs Spurs. maybe another clear the air talk needed. do the players maybe feel tactics been found out or Pep thinks tactics are great but player currently cannot do it or no longer can do it...
to be fair I dont see much tactical magic right now, we try to play the way that works great with a fit Rodri, KDB, a decent defence line and some added firepower from Foden, wingers and Haaland delivering goals what we have instead is 30% of squad injured, 65% badly out of form or some even past it and we maybe just ask too much from Gundo, Walker and KDB.

right now biggest issue is midfield which offers zero protection to an injury prone defence, and neither the wingers do well enough off the ball to help out in return they serve up next to nothing in goals and assists.
midfield and the wingers could sort themselves out it could change but without that it wont. we cannot sort out the midfield because if our midfield is Lewis+Gundo then any decent PL side will hurt us.

I think temporarily Pep needs to change tactics until we can at least have most of injured players back. even Rodri ut is on its own a big change and needs to answered by tactical change naive and stupid to think sticking Kovacic there or Gundo will be a good temporary option. its not.

dont think we need two wingers if both of them allergic to score/assist in almost whatever combination we put them on. using KDB out there on the wing when fit is an option tho, at least he will create.

Unfortunately we have no plan B. Plan A doesn’t work because of - injuries/tiredness/being found out/loss of form, whatever it is or a combination of all of the above.

He needs to change the system, it’s broken. That’s his job. He’s wonderful and arguably has been the best thing to ever happen to this club, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune to criticism.

Go defensive and make us hard to beat, not easy to pick off. Sitting deeper and not committing so many players forward would actually open much more space in front of us. That will suit the likes of Foden and Haaland.

He won’t change though.

Struggling to understand his decision to sign of for 2 more years. The current squad is run into the ground and a huge rebuild is needed.
Based upon the last few windows it would seem that the club are reluctant to splash out to get the right players and there can only be 115 reasons for that.

He's responsible for our greatest successes and so he's also responsible for these failures. Injuries or not, we were playing shitty football before Rodri got injured and it's got much worse after.

Change the fucking style. Not only is it not working it's really fucking boring.

I love Pep and will defend him to the hilt, but not making a sub until 70 odd minutes today was frustrating as fuck. McAtee and O’Reilly wouldn’t have turned it around by any means, but they were fit and available. To give them no minutes when the game was obviously gone was inexplicable to me.
The game was gone because the players he chose to leave on were shit...

huge rebuild needed. Gundo, KDB, Walker, Ederson imo all can go in the summer. all of them need proper replacement. to do this in one summer is bloody hard but Txiki being comfortable in recent windows will cost us for 1/2 years more. Stones with his injury situations needs to reviewed too. Grealish as well. he cost us so much, he had one good season or more like a half great season, another half good. rest is mediocre from him so far.

decision needed on wingers too, next to zero end product from them. Saka scored and assisted today. Salah will do tomorrow. our wingers are masters of playing 70/90 mins without scoring or assisting. at least if in return they do immense out of possession but they dont are they?

those number Sterling and Mahrez produced, seems impossible for the likes of Doku, Grealish etc.
Agree 100%. Our wingers simply don't score. We are in desperate need of a goal scoring winger to pair with a healthy Oscar Bobb.
As for Walker and Gundo, the less said the better.

He once called Spurs the “Harry Kane team” and it’s ironic that Spurs have exposed his current City team for being the “Erling Haaland team”

If Haaland doesn’t score, there is no one in the team or squad who can back him up.

Looking at the stats in the last two seasons after the first 12 games of the Premier League compared to this season backs this up.

22/23
36 goals from 10 players
Haaland scored 47% of our goals

23/24
31 goals from 9 players
Haaland scored 40% of our goals

24/25
21 goals from 5 players
Haaland scores 57% of our goals

Our second top goalscorers are Kovacic and Gvardiol with 3 each!

0 goals in 9 for Foden
0 goals in 12 for Bernardo
0 goals in 8 for Grealish
0 goals in 9 for Savinho
0 goals in 11 for Gundogan
0 goals in 8 for Nunes
1 goal in 8 for Doku
1 goal in 6 for KDB

Both Pep and the above 8 players need to find a way to rectify this soon otherwise Haalands goals will only be enough to get us in the top 4.
