Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Poor recruitment has left ageing players exposed, injuries haven't helped and Pep's refusal to try something different has put the cap on it.
I think the decision to bring gundo back was poor. A few other decisions are also looking suspect, I love Bernado but we've put massive effort into keeping him and that has an impact on game time of others. Palmer who's gone on to better things and Philips whos career has gone down the toilet. Wonder if the Pep of 10 years ago would have made the same calls.

The rodri injury has really exposed these calls.

Yes, these are all mitigating factors, but Pep has earned the right to stick at his style. 72% win ratio across his career.

If, after he has all his players back and these results still persist to the end of the season, then that's a different conversation.

So we have to wait until he has a full squad? A full squad which isn't happening because he's not using academy players to lighten the load on the obviously tired senior players? We have to potentially sit through this all season before there's a conversation?

I'm sorry for me has to adapt now, he can have his style when we have the players that can be competitive with his style. Currently, we're uncompetitive, our form is the worst in Europe. It's not acceptable to not change.

We've got everyone apart from Rodri, Bobb and Dias now. So there are no excuses, every club is having injury problems at the moment. Pep should be good enough to steer us through this. If we continue to lose at this rate then by the end of January he will leave of his own accord.

Do you think that most managers would have won 4 straight PLs and 6 out of the last 7 including 2 trebles? 100 points, 4 straight league cups? Is the answer still yes?
The answer is it all depends. Did Pep have the best squad in each of those 6 seasons? I'd say without argument. I can think of a few who would dominate a league if given the best squad. No one will debate that if given elite players Pep will win in a league format. Based on the past few windows either Pep or Txiki or whoever got confused that Pep could compete at the highest level without elite talent and depth. And here we are...

If we win the next two we’ll get some confidence back and then West Ham and Salford could easily make it four wins in a row and suddenly the mood has changed completely
I hope you’re right but at this moment in time I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost the next four and I include Salford in that . Not long back form Villa Park and it’s the first time in this run that I’m genuinely concerned that this run will continue and that Peps current state of mind will see him walk

Pep should stay if his heart is still in the job. What is really needed is new fitness coach, and the players should also have the balls to stand up to their national coaches and to refuse to be considered for their international fixtures unless they are nothing less than 100% fit. And while I'm thinking about it then their should be a place for a defensive coach like Zabba. He would be the kind of coach who would surely fit all these credentials.

Don't forget how it ended at Forest with Clough.
They dared not sack him because of everything he'd done and it all went wrong.

Bad recruitment - probably Pep played a small role.

Bad sales - Cole Palmer, enough said, selling too many and having a small squad.

Aging players - keeps picking them, not bringing younger players through, sitting on the bench and playing the odd 5 minutes doesn't count.

Rinse and repeat - same tactics every week, the same as when winning the league but the players were young and capable then. Relying on the same players and the same tactics again and again.

All that is there to be seen, no argument, but few of us are there to see what happens behind the scenes. I used to think, perhaps stupidly, that the players were all focused and had the club at heart but that illusion vanished when three of them, Mahrez, Laporte and Gundogan jumped ship straight after collecting their medals. Loyalty comes with money apparently.

The difference between your mindset and mine is that I absolutely think it could be significantly worse. Do you really think Pep is happy with how our players perform? The reason they keep getting minutes instead of youngsters is obviously because he sees them in training every day and think the kids are even worse. This is the highest level of football in the world and you are making the assumption that kids cant do any worse if they are just given the chance. I think you seriously underestimate the enormous difference in level between youth and PL football. Of course it can get worse. We could lose with 6-1 today instead of 2-1.
If he thinks that they are worse then we really are in trouble .

Different competition though and different circumstances in any case.

The point is that Pep regularly sees these players in training and as such he has a better idea of how good our players are than we do. If he thought any of the kids were good enough to play then they’d be in the team, Lewis being a prime example
Why are they in the squad ?

Remember earlier on in the season just before or at the start of this bad run Pep was questioning the player commitment maybe this is their big fuck you to him after those comments

I constantly defend Pep on the basis that with the same players Pellegrini would have won maybe 2 leagues in the time Pep has been here rather than 6. Same applies to Roberto.
Pep's seen off Jürgen and Arteta.
But the results recently have been shocking and the performance even worse.
I think Pep is done. Obviously noone will ever sack possibly the greatest manager anywhere ever. So for me it's up to him. But 1 win in 12 could become 1 win in 20 and for a club with so many still good players it raises the question about whether he should continue.
Good post mate . I agree about pep as i think he needs to call it a day and walk away a legend and the greatest ever because it’s clear this is not going to get better infact it could get worse if we don’t buy in January which I think will happen . Haaland is getting absolutely no service and he may go in the summer aswell . Love you pep but time to go .
