All I'm saying is
When Pep came through the door he already had a decent foundation of players at his disposal. Like the players I mentioned.
Same as his career at Barca N Bayern. He was blessed with world class players in the squad.
Now he has 3 or 4 at City going forward.
He is in uncharted territory. Will he get it right?
Is a big gamble.
What a stupid statement. No manager ever rebuilds a squad of 11 players. He has rebuild 1 Barca squad and 2 City squads. He inherited Yaya, Deco, Zambrota, Ronaldinho, Etoo, Marquez, Henry, Gio Van Bronckorst all as starters in Barca 06-08. In 08/09, Busquets, Xavi/Iniesta (normally only one of them played as starter), Pique, Alves, Abidal were the starters. By the next season all of them were gone and it was Pedro, Villa, Xavi/Iniesta, Pique, Alves, Busquets the starters. So 6 out of the 11 he inherited (and Mascherano and Maxwell would soon replace Puyol and Abidal). That is HUGE change.
Here in City, like you said he had Silva, Kompany, KDB, Sterling, Aguero and Fernandinho. By second year Kompany was injured more often than not. Silva would be soon gone, so he had to include 6-7 new players in the starting 11 compared to what he inherited from Pellegrini. And from the 17-19 team to the 21-24 team, only Ederson, Stones, Walker, Gundogan, KDB and Silva would have an important role. Dias, Ake, Rodri, Foden, Haaland, Grealish would all be important players.
Right now we are in a similar boat: Dias, Gvardiol, Rodri, Foden, Haaland are clearly world-class, are absolute starters next season and still are at the age to keep the level for the next 3-4 years. And the jury is still out for Marmoush, Khusanov and Savinho who I think all have clear signs of being world-class. We have 5 (potentially 6-7 players that are absolutely starters).
