Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

To finish below anyone but l’pool and Arsenal this season will be a huge disappointed for me.
I'd be a bit dissapointed, to be hugely dissapointed we'd need to finish outside the CL places for me. Think we'll finish top 5 though wouldn't be surprised to see a Forest drop off, then again thought that a while ago.

The damage was done last summer when Pep, by his own admission, persuaded the club to go one more year with the old guard and postpone a rebuild.
A full time CEO would have spotted the flaw in this position, ie Pep would select them irrespective, and put a stop to it.
However we do not have a CEO now, we have a part time exec from CFG. Soriano spends much more time on that than on City.
We used to say we were the best run club in the Prem, but that is no longer true, CFG takes precedence. See ticket prices.
The honeymoon is over.
I think that was just Pep falling on the sword for the club. Of course he wanted more players and better ones. We chased Bellingham and Rice and failed to get them the summer before. Clearly, he sidnt all of a sudden assume we dont need similar talents a year later.

i've said it before,
i'll say it now
and i'll likely say it again...

rodri,
rodri
and rodri...

had he been fit things would've been much different this season.
last season when he didn't play we lost games.
his absence is the reason we're not at our best.

and that point will be proved when he returns.
His absence was a factor, vut qe probably still dont win the league thos year with or without him. I think we were going to have a slight dip anyway. His absence just turned a 'coming 2nd and finishing 6 points off the top into a larger 'risk of not making Champions league" struggle.

I think a mixture of Rodri's injury and Foden's form might have been about 50% of the problem.

Love Pep obviously. Just think the time was right with new DOF Vianna coming in with a huge rebuild needed. Would of been right to start a new era at the club. Doesnt make sense to have Pep do half the rebuild. Hes given us everything he has owes us nothing, he looks exhausted has some personal problems. Doesnt need the money. Should just ride off into sunset leaving as the GOAT

He's made mistake after mistake this season, there no getting away from it but I'd say he's earned a bad one.

The question is, what are the expectations for next season? With the magnitude of rebuild required and the type of players we seem to be targeting, is the title realistic? I'm not so sure.

I'd say it's most likely going to take more than one season. I don't want Pep to go, but is there any point in him staying just one more season?

Imagine Rodri comes back today.. with this team.. do you honestly thing we're title contenders?

I think we'd be around 70 point mark even with Rodri. He papered over the cracks but now they've becomes giant chasms.

Foden - KDB - Bernardo
Gundogan - Kovacic
Basically 4 out of 5 we need to sell started against United for whatever reason. I don’t even know if you can score against Southampton with that line up.

Yeah, people talk about our technical level, but we used to physically dominate other teams as well. At the back Walker, Akanji and Ake were winning one on one duels almost every time. Rodri anchored the midfield giving more freedom to the rest, but Bernardo, Foden etc were full of incessant running.

That's completely flipped, through age, injuries, tiredness, motivation, or whatever.

why he leaving next year?

Is he staying?

He signed a two year contract and then did an interview where he said "normally I only sign 12 months contracts, but this time I asked the club to extend by 2 years". His reasoning was that the team needs a rebuild and he wants to be the person to do it. Basically he wants to leave behind a winning/title winning team.

Yeah that makes sense when you think about when he signed it. In hindsight, which is obviously easy, the magnitude of the drop-off and rebuild required has obviously caught the club off guard. The evidence of that is the number of January signings we made, something we don't normally do.

Yes I agree mate, I said I have no problem with us not challenging for the title this season, but he's made things worse with everything he's done, game management, player management, rubbish tactics with a suicidal high line and slow boring ineffective Football, and playing his favourites who are nowhere near good enough anymore.
Nothing wrong with Pep's tactics as such or overall approach if you look at his trophy haul.

100%. I think the realisation of how big the job was probably helped Pep decide what he wanted from his next contract. He's a man of principal and if he's signed a 2 year deal he's here for minimum 2 years.

Nice one.

We'll save a fortune in the summer window if all we need is a fit Rodri to get us back to the top.

Yep, I've been reading a lot of bullshit this season. The latest is that the era of 'system managers' is over. These are big words for a competition that has seen its first season in five (and only second in eight) not being won by Pep.
When I see posts like this I think people are totally missing the point.

Out of the seasons you mention where we have NOT won the league we were competitive. We were still exciting to watch.

This season we have served up mostly boring, lacklustre performances. More than any season since Pep has taken over. Look at the derby at the weekend as a prime example. The players didn't have a clue and neither did Pep. Against the poorest United side since Ferguson fucked off.

Scruffing wins against the bottom clubs whilst the other top teams turn them over with ease.

This whole season has been a car crash no matter how much credit in the bank Pep has. His credit will only last so long before he is questioned. And serving up results and displays like the last 6 months won't help him or the squad move forward.

What are ‘system managers’ as opposed to ‘clueless managers whose teams have no discernible organisation?’

Start next year like this is finishing then it won't matter what his contract is. He will be sacked.

Yes, I expected Forest to drop off earlier than this, but they have kept going.
