Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

this a season he needs to come back from.

very poor in the league, worst points tally ever for him in a top league since he started at Barca, he did 78 points in his debut season with no PL experience and squad not exactly ready for him yet.

in CL he delivered his worst ever season, this is a big hit to his ego, before City he was in CL semis every single season at least with Barca and Bayern and got us to that level in last few years with semis and finals but not even getting into last 16 is a first for him. he only ever lost one KO tie in CL in last 16 before once all his career vs Monaco...

this all topped by his divorce on a personal level.

FA cup final loss, another bitter pill.

even his backroom staff is now gone and his big friend Txiki is gone soon and his main creator who has been here all along KDB.

Have a feeling he was going to leave as well end of this season but for whatever reason he changed course and he gives it one more go.

I am sure he would love to come back from this and win another PL and especially CL. I really hope it happens otherwise its a bit of a bleak last two years (next two, assuming he hangs up his time at City in summer 2027) for him if he doesnt while we watch dippers and Arse celebrate instead of us...

he needs a tactical reset almost reborn, and for that all the help is needed from backroom staff, board level, Viana, playing squad etc.

like the players he would need a big rest, good long holiday and come back early July put in a serious fitness training that allows us to start heavy pressing, but this CWC is just brutal shit schedule and allows little rest and preparation for new season is effected in a strange way while allows good schedule for likes of dippers, Arse. money rolling in is great from CWC, but we could be off the pace big time if we are busy with CWC until the end and then players get their long holiday and come back not in top shape when PL already kicking off mind August. there was a reason we asked for at least 1st game postponed as we know the timeline will be very bad for us.
PL would have been ok with it if its Arse and dippers lol.

despite that Pep will have to be creative and whatever the new playing system, style it needs to be practiced as early as the Wydad game. dont want to see the same style, slow attacks, Doku doing tricks then hits first defender, Haaland lost between mediocre defenders, concede from first shot of opponent etc. this will need to change.

how we prepare this summer in trainings and in the transfer market will have a huge factor how next season will go.
we need to be younger, more energetic, quicker, press more. hope this is the plan. January window points to this direction even tho they not exactly have been bedded in apart from Marmoush much.

The job this summer is similar to the job the club had after his first season. Clear out a lot of older heads and bring some new talent in.

Bernardo, Laporte, Ederson, Walker, Danilo and Mendy were signed. 4 did very well, 3 still with us.

The action started in Jan, building our future. They'll complete the job this summer and clear those they feel have done all they can for us or aren't good enough. And Pep will once again get us challenging for the major honours.

All have gone on to either revive ailing teams to better levels or go on to win trophies. (ok tenhaag and artera are weak links recently but still one won stuff and the other has gone a bit loopy)

To have the most points in 2025, having played a game less than Liverpool and Arsenal, when we’ve had the injury record below, should be commended.

Rodri has missed 36 PL games
Bobb 36
Aké 29
Stones 29
Grealish 18
Foden 14
Ederson 13
Akanji 12
Dias 11
DeBruyne 10
Doku 9
Haaland 7
And our captain, Walker, fucked off midseason and missed 23 games.

Pep has made us more solid in the second half of the season and got the most out of squad players and us having to rely a lot on older players, younger players and players out of form.

At times we had Ederson Walker Stones Aké Akanji Dias Rodri Foden and De Bruyne out or playing with injuries, illness, just coming back from injury or just being out of form at the same time.

A campaign to forget but a campaign that has showed good character to come through the worst run of results we’ve had for decades.
Sorry but Stones and Ake have to go. Too much deadweight

Fixed it. I am just going to pretend like the other guy has no connection to Pep.

What has been noticeable is the increase in physicality, energy and intensity in the Premier League exemplified by the emergence of the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford and Palace? Watching Betis last night, a large factor in Chelsea winning was how they finally overpowered a smaller more technical side? The same happened to City in our bad spell as injuries and age took its toll.

The game is evolving and no doubt City and Pep will make the necessary changes to return to the top.

Yes, I'd love to see a bacon face version of this. Robson, Bruce, Hughes, Giggs, Carrick and McLeish.

Well if Pep wanted to get a feel for managing an international team the CWC could be a taster. Big squad, new and unknown players, new formations, short training time to establish patterns of play etc. I’m quite exited about this now.

It's certainly a departure from the norm.

they are only taking about 25 players according to reports.

Curious to see how he approaches the CWC and what team he puts out

But worried our signings are Viannas and not Pep's and he'll want to revert to type and his players like he did the 2nd half of the season
He may not trust the new guys, but we need to play the next generation and leave the Bernardos, Gundogans behind eve if they are Pep's reliable go-tos

I think that is our biggest fear going into the new season aswell .
