There comes a stage when the manager has to be ruthless with the players, and so far that's my concern with Guardiola, but in some respect, it's also my concern with the club. We have a tendency to rest on our laurels when it goes well, 'see, I knew we were doing it right', and not take it to the next level. Save for Laporte, Sterling, and Bernardo, I'm not sure one player has consistently upped his game this season on last. Sure, many have put in great games here and there, but over the course of the season so far, those three are the ones that stand out for me as having improved. It's one thing buying young players and anticipating that they will perform together over a number of seasons, but those players have to demonstrate the ability to improve individually so as to merit inclusion. The coming months should be revealing.

Sane is better this season than last. Think before the newcastle game he had the best goal + assist ratio per 90 of any player this season, edging out salah and aguero. Stones too is better this season than last season, around this time last year Stones was dropped and was 3rd or 4th choice CB.

Walker, Jesus, Gundogan, Delph, Otamendi look worse than last year. Though I suppose its all about opinions.

If you recall, Pep said he would be getting tough on the players this season - maybe the players cannot hack that

With the exception of Walker who has arguably played too much, the others aren't "worse" at all, they just haven't had a good run of games to get their rhythm, Jesus has looked on fire this month, then he's left out on Tuesday, but is still expected to come on and save us (there's a placard in there somewhere), when the rest were looking bloody clueless.

It turns out he knows a thing or two about football.

But why has it taken so long in the season to try something a bit different? Admittedly against Arsenal, Everton, and Chelsea he can expect opponents who will be more expansive and play football, but the addition of an extra midfielder and/or playing centre-half gave the team greater speed of passing and we could attack from more angles.

Because until yesterday he didn ‘t know what he was doing probably. Slow learner.

What was up with the subs tonight? KDB needed to come off ten minutes before he did...he literally sat down at the end from how exhausted he was. Totally inexplicable.

He sat down because he got cramp. Before that I don't think he was even going to come off.

Remember he spoke recently about needing to get full games in his legs now, he's only played 90 mins once this season and they're trying to build his fitness up again.

Right, almost as if leg cramps area very common symptom of overexertion. I take your point about him needing to get 90 minutes in his legs but closing out a must win, especially given our schedule coming up, isn't the time or place in my opinion.

To that point, could you provide a list of upcoming league matches that are not must wins and thus the appropriate time and place for him to get 90 minutes to build fitness?

Well obviously Guardiola and the club's massive team of sports scientists, physio's, conditioning coaches and doctors disagree.

Obviously they're all important from here on out, which is why it seems rather stupid to me to leave our best player on the pitch while he's clearly laboring, with his hands on his knees at every stoppage in play, while he's still just coming back from injury. I would prefer him being on the pitch in three days against Everton rather than have him out for the full 90 today when it isn't necessary. It's basic squad rotation.

Sure, but let's not pretend we're infallible in that regard.

just wanted to say, the more I hear him the more I realise what a decent human being we have as a manager. So dignified so humble everything you want in a human being. It will be a very sad day when he’s no longer with us I hope it’s many years to come yet.

I noticed on MotD2 last night that there was a point where he hammered his water bottle into the ground. Was it Atkinson or had someone misplaced a pass? Wonder if those guardians of the game at FArce HQ saw it? Is it rolling round Sky on a loop with Gary Nutter listing all the other incidents where a manager whizzed a water bottle. Didn't Emery get a fine for similar only recently?

Think he kicked it and it hit a supporter. But our pep was just watering the pitch:)
