I'll never accept the CL as a proper competition. It's a contrived cash cow designed specifically to benefit 'select' clubs. The inclusion of clubs that aren't champions of their own national league is UEFA pandering to the likes of the rags, Milan clubs, Barcelona, etc.
The simple fact that you can come fourth in your domestic league and second in the CL group, and be 'Champions" of all Europe, is risible.

The European Cup was a proper competition. A genuine knockout competition. The CL pales in comparison. I'd rather win the Carabao Cup.

It’s still far more of an elite competition than the carabao cup, or the fa cup, and harder to win than the league.

I agree to some extent that going back to that format would be ideal, but they’re going the opposite direction because money talks and that means more fixtures.

You still have to be the best to win, perform better than everyone else, and as with all of football, a sprinkling of luck

It was a great competition when it was the European Cup and limited to genuine Champions.

UEFA killed the credibility of the tournament when they allowed non-champions to enter.

It's a plastic tournament aimed at extracting cash from gullible football tourists.
 
Pep to stay, as I don't think we'd win the league for a couple of years if he was to leave at the end of this particular season

Squad needs a bit of an overhaul and that along with a new manager won't be pretty

That aside, I'd probably rather Pep stays and we continue to dominate domestically

Btw this question smells like the arrogant lazy spoiled fan that Pep is pointing at. I can happily say I lived through the bad years to appreciate everything that has been achieved since Mansour took over. And that has nothing to do being a happy clapper. Seeing both sides ( no succes and humiliation to succes and envy from opposing fans ) made me and the ones who recognise this, a better fan. Yes I’ve said it.

Thats a twisting of the facts, they wanted to be in the elite European trophy when they thought that was changing they jumped on that train, when they realised it wasn’t going anywhere they jumped off sharpish, to remain in the elite european. competition.
 
it irritates me far more than it should when I hear one of our so-called fans saying they are not arsed about the champions league. It shows a complete selfishness, small-mindedness and disregard for the club, its future, it’s staff and players.

Stop pretending or open your eyes. It’s the biggest club competition in the world and the whole club would become better in every single area by winning it.

This sums it up. Well said. We've got some fans saying they'd rather win the Carabao cup, it's a fucking embarrassment. You won't find a single fan in any other fanbase that would rather win a carabao cup over the CL; is that because we're "built differently", or is the truth that some of our fans are in total denial: I know which one I'm going for. Our profile and legacy would enhance tenfold over night should we win this competition, that in turn will engender a better feeling amongst the players, staff, and of course the fans. You don't have the clubs best interests at heart if you're "not bothered" about winning the CL. I find it strange that certain fans on here have an apathetic attitude to the CL, as though it's vogue and sets them apart as trailblazers, but every other City fan I speak to in the real world, including my old man, my brothers, my uncle, and my City supporting mates, would give every fibre to see us lift the one major honour that still eludes us. Go fucking figure.

Sorry Dave, I just don’t like the competition.

It's understandable that the owners will see winning it as a priority, and I agree that doing so would be of great benefit to the club financially.

Let's face it, I'm just an FOC who thinks there's too much greed in the game, but at the end of the day, I feel that winning domestic trophies and being dominant in your own country means much more.

That said, I will of course cheer like a loon if we do ever win the CL! I just won't be there in person.

Far more dominant and efficient. They had being doing it since 1987.
