It will really piss off the cartel, if we continue winning trophies at the same rate as we have over the last decade, under Pep's successor.
That can't happen, I think. Not, as you say, at the same rate. Barring a couple of blip seasons (2019-20, 2024-25), we've crushed it since 2017. Pep is one of a kind. But because we are a well-run club, which plans for the long term — always — we'll be in the mix. Regular qualification for the CL, I hope, a trophy here and there, I hope, even a league title, I hope. (All this is more than I ever dreamt of, even in City’s previous “great” period of ’67 to ’77).
Villa have progressed, Arsenal will still be there next season — although I'm very curious to see if their tactics are going to be cracked down on, especially on set pieces/corners, their bullying, their play acting, their time wasting, etc. — Liverpool will I'm pretty sure come back strongly. The City-Liverpool thing of being streets ahead of everyone else is over, for the time being.
I don't see a dominant tandem emerging, from anywhere.
Contrariwise, the worries about United are unfounded. A bit like Tottenham with Son and Kane, they depend to an unhealthy extent on one man. Otherwise, I see nothing other than a basically mediocre team that has overperformed. The honeymoon with Carrick will continue, until it doesn't. And I suspect it may be over pretty quickly. He's no heavyweight.
That's the way I see it, anyway. Interesting times ahead. We'll have to adjust.
