Pep to leave at the end of the season

It will really piss off the cartel, if we continue winning trophies at the same rate as we have over the last decade, under Pep's successor.

That can't happen, I think. Not, as you say, at the same rate. Barring a couple of blip seasons (2019-20, 2024-25), we've crushed it since 2017. Pep is one of a kind. But because we are a well-run club, which plans for the long term — always — we'll be in the mix. Regular qualification for the CL, I hope, a trophy here and there, I hope, even a league title, I hope. (All this is more than I ever dreamt of, even in City’s previous “great” period of ’67 to ’77).
Villa have progressed, Arsenal will still be there next season — although I'm very curious to see if their tactics are going to be cracked down on, especially on set pieces/corners, their bullying, their play acting, their time wasting, etc. — Liverpool will I'm pretty sure come back strongly. The City-Liverpool thing of being streets ahead of everyone else is over, for the time being.
I don't see a dominant tandem emerging, from anywhere.
Contrariwise, the worries about United are unfounded. A bit like Tottenham with Son and Kane, they depend to an unhealthy extent on one man. Otherwise, I see nothing other than a basically mediocre team that has overperformed. The honeymoon with Carrick will continue, until it doesn't. And I suspect it may be over pretty quickly. He's no heavyweight.
That's the way I see it, anyway. Interesting times ahead. We'll have to adjust.

I agree. The domination we had during Pep’s first 7 years was due to him employing a brand new way of playing the game and everyone else trying to work it out and then play catch up, whilst Pep kept tweaking things to stay ahead. Ultimately he ran out of ways to do that last season but that was always going to be inevitable. He was lucky in the fact he already had 3 stunning players in Sergio, El Mago and Vinnie to be able to employ his system in the first place and then added Kev and Eddie to finish it off. I just don’t see that scenario happening again.

Pep’s doing the right thing getting out of the game, in England at least. It’s more about physicality than skill now.

Don't agree with the sentiment of your commentary on the last two seasons at all. The players' legs went last year, not Pep's ingenuity, and to be only a few points away from a domestic treble in a transitional year this time speaks of his extraordinary skill.

Didn’t have Andy Robertson paying a tribute to Pep on my last day bingo card list!

I have got an image in my head of Klopp kicking the Jesus out of his telly, classy comments from Robertson though.

But we’re talking about dominance and could we repeat that? We all saw the other teams getting closer, even in 2023, and yes that was partly down to the players getting older, but it was also down to everyone else devising systems to handle us. With help from the officials of course.

Really enjoyed the send off for Bernardo, Stones and Pep yesterday, great to see some of the old players returning. As for Pep , he is simply the GOAT and we need to cherish the memories. He has given us the best football you could wish to see and for that I am eternally grateful.
