Pep to leave at the end of the season

See above what/where ?

This summer will be the same whether Pep stays or we appoint Maresca, neither will have much time with the players before next season, the only difference is Pep already knows those that will still be here, whoever they are.
Sorry - but you were the third or fourth to query what I assumed was an obvious point.

What you lightly dismiss as the 'only difference' is an absolute game-changer. With a new squad of players, a new coach will be learning not only about their individual playing strengths and weaknesses, but also about the relationships that they all have between each other. We've all seen players that excel in the company of some, but struggle when playing with others. He can't glean any of that from Opta stats.

A huge ask in such a short amount of time.

He’s seen his backside mate, it’s all got too real for him and he’s simply not ready, and by not ready i dont think its a case of i will be this time next year either. I think this has put the spooks up him and could be completely new era of pep. The question you have to ask is what next and there is simply nothing for him that will fulfill him like this. Once you’re gone you’re gone and he’s thought hang on, im not finished.

I'm hoping you're right and I think there might be something in it. Even if it's just to see out the final year, seeing the fallout to speculation that he's going and the bitterness, lack of praise and pathetic attempts to undermine all his incredible achievements has given him a sneak peak into what is to come... Surely that's got to be tempting for him to think, right, one last dance with an exciting team that isn't far off and the chance to go out with the PL trophy, as he rightly should...

Yes obviously, but my point is that this summer it will be a challenge for them all, most teams will have new players, as I expect will we, and lots will move on too.

I just dont understand how Pep hasn't said something yet if true he's leaving.

I get there's no smoke without fire and the club have got a plan if he goes but his are we still completely in the dark and Pep keeps saying the same. Have 1 more year, need to talk to Khaldoon.

He originally said he had one more year and he is staying he now says he needs to talk to Khaldoon, that's a backwards step surely?
I think he's earned the right to say he is going when he wants.

I suppose anything is possible and people do change their minds. Not sure how that scenario would play out if there's already an agreement with another manager in place though, or worse still, a contract has been signed!
Any chairman worth his salt would put in a clause in Maresca's contract saying "subject to Pep being a spontaneous nutter and changing his mind at half-past the eleventh hour" ;)

It wasn’t one way traffic for Chelsea fans.
Very much more positive than negative and even the negative comments, only one specifically blames him.

The general perception since he joined there to this day is that he’s been their best manager for a while and it’s the wider circus that’s the issue.

If anything, that link makes me feel a little better about him.

I agree. Just think we'd hear something more concrete. Obviously Monday night was a big one but seems to have only come from one place - the fact Maresca has been approached which everyone knew anyway.

No leaks from club, players, staff. It still just doesn't feel right. If he goes I reckon it's just in the summer one speaks to Khaldoon (which happens every season).

Viana can fucking walk then. If Pep wants to leave, he leaves on his terms, and no manager and their agent, be it Enrique, Flick, Zidane or anyone else gets to force his hand.

Maresca chose to walk, that’s on him. He can refuse jobs until this one becomes available, but hurrying the greatest manager of all time to make a decision is the wrong move.
Why the hell any of you think this is a thing is beyond me. It's just the media being the media, creating controversy because it sells. I do not believe for one second that Pep would let such a thing happen and not say anything about it.

Seems pretty obvious to me that the same thing has happened here as happened with Pellegrini, the club have planned ahead and prepared the next manager to take over and Pep will have known all along. I even believe that Maresca was most likely recommended by Pep. The only variable for me is whether he decided he'd had enough or whether the club decided it was time to move on.

Likewise with the announcement, the club have planned it for the final match and there will be a send off for the plyers and manager leaving. I see no reason why they should change their plans just because some wanker couldn't keep his/her mouth shut and decided to leak it to the press. The club decide when and how, NOT the media.
