I may be missing something here but why are we not looking to sign Daniele De Rossi instead of this guy?
De Rossi can play CD and has done so at club and international level in addition to being one of the very best defensive midfielders of his generation. He also chips in with his fair share of goals.
I have just returned from hols in Italy and it's clear from what he is saying he wants to come to the PL and Chelsea are in the box seats.
I honestly cannot understand why we are not going in for this guy. The only thought may be around his wage demand but surely we should be able to manage this having cleared out dead wood already....

Because we are looking for a centre-back not another midfielder, and Pepe is far superior to DDR in defence.

Not good enough to progress in the champions league between the 5 of them this is my only fear...

we need more experience at the back.

Peps is also extremely volatile. Most refs will I am sure remember him standing on Messi's right hand and he will be an extra target for them in a blue shirt...
I suppose Pepe may however accept being a squad player more than De Rossi who would and should command a starting place...very worried about him going to Chelski..it will make them a much stronger team imo.

Mate - buying a player just because you like them, and then playing them out of position is the kind of thing Keegan used to do in his most car crash Management moments. It will unbalance the squad, because ultimately he won't want to be a Centre Back and will be looking to play in midfield - where we are already over-stocked - and will still leave us short at the back.

We need a Centre Back, so we should buy a Centre Back - not a Defensive Midfielder, and then play him out of position
