Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Looking at Pep's history he needs a new challenge every few years , if he gets the success required i.e. Premier League titles and Champs League with us over the next couple of years , he will leave for another challenge or maybe another sabbatical , wouldnt be surprised if he ended up managing Spain in the future.

You know what, I think the Basque situation is probably the single thing that would make him extend. I can't see him managing Spain ever unless Spain becomes a region of the Basque country

What? Basque? Some people really clueless

I do think he’ll extend and coaching Catalan NT would be something many would love to see

How long did it take Kosovo and Gibraltar to gain FIFA recognition? More likely he'll coach Brazil, Italy or France.

Missed this earlier, I know Balague isn't always the most reliable but good to hear it come up again. I hope Pep's aiming for a few Champions Leagues so he sticks around a while.

Be still my beating heart. Would that not be the most marvellous news!

It makes perfect sense as well. Although it is very possible (likely?) that we may have won the league and maybe even the CL, by the end of his contract - although that still is a stretch, I think - what is pretty clear is that the team still has lots of potential to get much better.

It would be strange to imagine Pep will strengthen the team to the point that it is at its absolute peak, and then leave, allowing his replacement to win everything and overshadow Pep's achievements. Of course i don't know what motivates Pep, but certainly in his shoes, I would not want that.

This team is for the most part young. On the European-stage we're making strides but still have some very big opponents in our way. It would be a shame if Pep left before we were really crowned as a great European team. We have to become the dominant force in European football. Then the job is done. I don't really see how he can do that inside of his current contract as City needed a total rebuild when he joined and we were way behind where Bayern were.

Totally agree mate.

If another top manager were to take over at the end of Pep's current contract, it seems very likely to me that he would achieve - in trophy terms - more than Pep had achieved, since he'd be inheriting a team nearer to the top of its game. We City fans would all long remember who had done the hard yards and built what we have, but the history books would not. History might remember Pep's time at City as being a relative failure. Who would want that???

Clearly you've never been to Kosovo. It will not take 8 years to get recognized for a very developed nation of nearly 8 million

Brasil will never consider a foreign coach, that window shut a few years back when he was briefly linked (And perhaps even lobbying for) to the job. Hard to see it with the Azzurri for the same reasons but also because I couldn't imagine the Italians playing Pep's brand of football.

Les Bleus, on the other hand, would be possible but would the FFF have the cajones to do make that call? I am skeptical

It will take Catalunya just as long as Gibraltar and Kosovo for the same reasons - established FIFA members lobbying against their recognition for fear of their talent pool reducing as well as the obvious political reasons. Spain delayed Gibraltars recognition for years from pure vindictiveness, they've a solid footballing motivation to delay Catalunya.

Not necessarily true. The atmosphere at Barca was toxic at the time & it emerges the plan was for Pep to come here in 2012, but us winning the title in such dramatic fashion scuppered that.

He then took a year out & accepted the offer to manage Bayern. That appointment & Pellegrini's appointment now turn out to be stop gaps. Pep was the plan all along & he's now at a club where he has the infrastructure, the financial backing & the resources to compete with the very best, unhindered by club politics as he was at Barca.

This team is already Pep's & I've always sensed he wants to stay here & build it to its fullest potential. He was lauded as possibly the world's best current manager, but the PL was always going to test him. So where better for him to build a dynasty & prove himself than at Manchester City?

He's no longer in a 1 or 2 team league, he's now in the PL where there's a top 6 with only 4 CL spots available per season, unless another team does a ManUre by finishing 6th & winning the EL.

He also has Moureen, Wenger, Conte, Pochettino & teeth as his managerial adversaries to contend with, so if City can't quench Pep's insatiable appetite, then no-one can.

Everything he could possibly want is right here. Nothing is certain in life & that is especially true in the PL, but Pep has a club which already reflects his image & he's now moulding his team to match our club's ambitions & doctrine.

He won't be with us forever, but I truly believe he'll be here a lot longer than many of us realise at this present moment & I for one couldn't be happier.

I said from the beginning of last season, we won't see all Pep's work come to fruition until season 2019-2020, & nothing I've seen yet makes me believe differently. We're playing a long game here & whilst it'll be nice to win something this season, I won't be disappointed in the least if we don't, as I've never thought we can truly judge Pep until he's properly had the chance to reverse the regression of the Pellegrini years.

That's why I say & maintain; we ain't seen nothing yet folks...
