Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Not necessarily true. The atmosphere at Barca was toxic at the time & it emerges the plan was for Pep to come here in 2012, but us winning the title in such dramatic fashion scuppered that.

He then took a year out & accepted the offer to manage Bayern. That appointment & Pellegrini's appointment now turn out to be stop gaps. Pep was the plan all along & he's now at a club where he has the infrastructure, the financial backing & the resources to compete with the very best, unhindered by club politics as he was at Barca.

This team is already Pep's & I've always sensed he wants to stay here & build it to its fullest potential. He was lauded as possibly the world's best current manager, but the PL was always going to test him. So where better for him to build a dynasty & prove himself than at Manchester City?

He's no longer in a 1 or 2 team league, he's now in the PL where there's a top 6 with only 4 CL spots available per season, unless another team does a ManUre by finishing 6th & winning the EL.

He also has Moureen, Wenger, Conte, Pochettino & teeth as his managerial adversaries to contend with, so if City can't quench Pep's insatiable appetite, then no-one can.

Everything he could possibly want is right here. Nothing is certain in life & that is especially true in the PL, but Pep has a club which already reflects his image & he's now moulding his team to match our club's ambitions & doctrine.

He won't be with us forever, but I truly believe he'll be here a lot longer than many of us realise at this present moment & I for one couldn't be happier.

I said from the beginning of last season, we won't see all Pep's work come to fruition until season 2019-2020, & nothing I've seen yet makes me believe differently. We're playing a long game here & whilst it'll be nice to win something this season, I won't be disappointed in the least if we don't, as I've never thought we can truly judge Pep until he's properly had the chance to reverse the regression of the Pellegrini years.

That's why I say & maintain; we ain't seen nothing yet folks...

I truly hope you are right, I doubt it. One thing that might temp Pep to put down some roots is the quality of a number of our youth teams. The back biters say..but he had Messi...but the work was already done at bayern...Oil Money ..and so on and so forth. Imagine a full team brought through the ranks on his philosophy...If he sticks around long enough he may be the man to do it :)

Pep has carte blanche at City to do as he sees fit. He wasn't just brought here to manage the team, he was bought here to reinforce the philosophy brought to Barca by Cruyff, & improved on by Guardiola himself. To do so at City, his philosophy has to be introduced from the U6's through to the first team & in the years to come, we'll begin to reap the fruits from our regular, bountiful harvests.

Pep knows first team success is ultimately what it's all about, but he also knows that to build a dynasty, he has to put down roots & build strong & deep foundations as a base to that dynasty, & that can only come from investing in youth.

The question is, can we provide Pep with all what he needs, to do what he has to do unhindered? I think the answer to that is clearly yes. This being the case why would he need to go anywhere else for the foreseeable future, if all he could ever need or desire is already here?

From the very beginning I've suspected there has been a dynastic plan for Pep. The PL is the place to be & if he can regularly conquer it, there will be no higher achievement possible in top level European football.

He's constantly said it could take 10 years or more to achieve this feat & to get City to the level of the elite European teams. So why would he want to lay the foundations, put the building blocks in place & hand over his hard graft to someone else to take the initial glory & in the long term probably fuck it all up? I don't buy it.

BUT I believe both he and the club are being pragmatic by not publicly admiting they have dynastic plans, whilst also saying we'll progress to where we're going one step at a time so as not to tempt fate, seem arrogant & not hang our coats where we can't reach it.

I rely a lot on my gut feelings based on what I can see in front of me, so believe me when I say this; Pep is not infallable, however he is the real deal, & we ain't seen nothing yet.

In January 2018 Pep's children will be Marius, 15 Maria, 13, and Valentina 9.
Not quite knowing exact birthdays, he will extend for at least 2 (possibly 3 depending on exact birth dates) for his children's education only to be minimally affected - a total of 4 or 5 more seasons.

Whilst I agree with pretty much all of that, there is a requirement for the here and now.

We have an incredible squad, and the pressure/consequence of that is to ensure we are winning trophies in the current moment.

There is clearly a long term vision but I don't think that will be at the cost of collecting trophies this season and beyond.

We can build and still be successful short term.

2 great posts btw.

He's kinda hinted at this too, with his claims that City don't have a huge European pedigree, players are young, lack of experiences, as well as not having to face much pressure compared to at Barca or BM. I feel the City higher up perhaps gave him 2-3 years to build his team and get the team to perform, while the want him to finish obviously in the top 4 and any other titles in a bonus, but after his 3rd year they want to see results + titles.

They want progress, and no one can say that we are not seeing it. Now, it is a matter of whether that translates into silverware this season. From the evidence so far, it should, but then there are 5 domestic teams who will have a say in that, and the top teams in Europe! Never an easy task, but we are building the kind of squad that will soon have experience in all competitions...and the ability to win them all.

I suppose that's where the difference between fans & management will come in. We're in the business of winning trophies & titles, but considering we nearly got relegated from the CL about 18 months ago, I think sustained long term progress is more important.

I'm sure last season & this, Pep could have done a Moureen to ensure vital wins or draws here & there, but we can't keep switching philosophies based on the match in front of us. Sitting back & soaking up the pressure & looking for a long ball to be hoofed up to a big man up front, for a break away goal is what has started the rumblings of discontent over at Old Toilet.

Personally, if we had to go this season without success, but kept on progressing on the playing front, I personally think its a long term price worth paying to be able to have success playing as we are now.

Pep said yesterday that irrespective of all the plaudits the players & team as a whole have been getting, that players like Sterling, Stones, Sane, Ederson, Jesus etc are a long way from the finished article & have very little CL experience between them & a lot of scope to improve further.

These things will take time to all come together, but if they do, everyone better watch out! A lot of fans have said the football we're playing is the best football the PL has ever seen, but I'm with Pep on this one whereby I can see loads of room for improvement & I can also see a steady, linear progression forward in that respect.

The club cannot come out & say this, but I will...... If we don't win a carrot this season, Pep's job WILL NOT be on the line. The season will not be seen as a failure, but as a disappointment & in the big scheme of things, this season will be seen in the context of the last 2 seasons, one of which we won a trophy, but nearly got relegated from the CL & played some real dross along the way.

It'll not be on the line and rightly so, but don't kid yourself.

Winning trophies is so so important. It will damage the brand if we don't. Remember this is a growing club commercially. It's attracting new fans and that fan type are glory hunters who want to see instant success.

We can be competitive on and off the pitch whilst still developing.

That said, I think it's all immaterial mate because we'll win the league this season. No question.
