Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Lots of expected links to Ruben Amorim because of Viana appointment. However, Xabi Alonso has a very powerful block of supporters within City. One of those is Pep. He was his number one choice to become his assistant after Arteta left. City were extremely impressed with his loyalty towards his employers at that time. Alonso had a clause inserted in his contract renewal which included accepting any offer from City and some other big clubs.

Been unimpressed with Alonso. He’s got the Arteta gene, happy to stick 11 men behind the ball.
Ridden his luck to a ridiculous degree, this season will be a better judge of what he’s like as a manager.
Outclassed in the Europa League final, mauled by Kompany’s Bayern the other week, score line wasn’t reflective but Leverkusen struggled to get out of half for the majority of the game.

Being "mauled" and drawing 1-1 isn't bad surely? Even though they won it last year Bayern would still have been huge favourites considering each squad. That's a decent away draw. Can't disregard last year and solely judge him on this year, just because there is no way he can repeat that kind of feat in that league. Just say you don't want/like him mate.

No but I rate teams like Stuttgart with Seb Hoeness. They play better football than Leverkusen.
Alonso will always get praised for the invincibles, it’s in an impressive achievement. He’s got Real Madrid written all over him. He’s that type of manager.

With what he has achieved with the players/resources available he has done exceptionally well.

I simply don't get the deZerbi love in, very good coach but his man management are Mancini levels.

Managerial market leaves lots to be desired right now.

100% it does and hence why it's essential that Pep hangs around for a few years.

Who ever takes over eventually there is going to be a big drop off, however well run as a club we are.

There will be a drop off, a significant one like some other clubs? I would be surprised. Being that well run club will mean we are as prepared as possible, limiting the scale of the drop off.
