Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

If the club isn’t careful the actual football will become a sideshow, players we pursue will want assurances about the managers future as will existing players when it comes to renewing contracts . It’s a recurring theme at press conferences now so you can imagine the scenario next season if nothing is settled.

Nothing to stop the club and pep to come up with a five year deal with a walk away anytime he wants written in to his contract?! Stops all the media chatter.

Unless we win the CL (unlikely IMO), there’s a strong chance he’ll be trailing in Klopp’s wake at the end of this season. That’s if the dippers win the PL (almost certain) and break some of our league records (possible). In effect, the toothy one will have achieved the mission for which Pep was brought in, while Pep will have only have delivered on the domestic front.

His job’s safe and the decision will be in his hands because he’s achieved a huge amount, playing fabulous football. But how will be react to being eKloppsed? A new 2/3 year challenge to conquer Europe and put the scousers back in their boxes or cash in the bet with objectives partially realised?

I think if he left in our present position his reputation would be slightly tarnished. Pep arrived after reasonably short stints at Barca and Bayern and with questions marks if he was a long term manager.
If he stays and rebuilds the squad, and we go on to win titles he will win over all doubters.
And I hope for one he takes on the challenge that Klop and Littlewoods have put down.
It's going to be a very interesting summer.

I agree his legacy would be tarnished but I get the impression Pep is not the type of bloke to leave tasting defeat and if anything the challenge posed by Liverpool and Klopp make it more likely he will stay next season rather than if we had tasted the success like last year.

I also think there is a huge challenge here professionally for him with regards building the squad and responding to different styles of play.

Its difficult to criticise such a great manager but questions do need asking why we have a 60 million (value) fullback sat on the bench every week, our holding midfielder forced to play at centre half due to injury to one centre half (Even a fit stones would not play before Fernandiniho).

He dropped the ball in the summer with not buying a centre half, a leader and not moving on players earlier to open up places in the squad for players of the required ability.

Similarly Klopps style of play has proven difficult for Peps passing, positional based style to master in individual matches and I think he will revel in that personal challenge.

Someone who may well be a major influence on Pep's decision is Khaldoon. I think he has absolute, unshakeable confidence in Pep and Pep has great respect for him. Khaldoon wants him to stay as do Begiristain and Sorriano and Pep will get their total support in building the team.

Just for as second, turn it around. Imagine Klopp had been with us for 5 seasons instead of Liverpool and had been a failure until finally winning a trophy last season. Now looks set to win the league. In the meantime pep went to Liverpool, won 5 of the last 6 domestic trophies breaking all records in the process and playing the best football the English game has ever seen. How do you think this would hav been covered in the press? Pep would have been an honorary knight of the realm. Klopp would have been labelled a failure.

pep has not been out Klopped.

Sorry but CL + WC + PL + other records would trump domestic-only honours. Never mind the press. Ask the City top brass.

Agree with you guys. “Tarnish” may be a strong word but failure to win in Europe with two successive well-fancied clubs would be bitterly disappointing for him. As would leaving us with a creaking squad. Like you, I hope this galvanises him to stay longer and come out all guns blazing next year.

The dippers have been excellent these last few months but can’t keep up this pace or enjoy such good fortune indefinitely.
