Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Not really, we gifted them a goal with some poor defending, though the lad finished it very well. Trouble is we make a habit of conceding goals like that, and its because we have to run towards our own goal, Garcia made a great tackle, and was a bit unfortunate, but it was still poor team defending, and it usually is when the opposition score.

So it was unfortunate, then? Garcia reacted well enough, but his tackle fell to their player, rather than safely.

That being said, I don’t know why Pep doesn’t have pace as one of his central defender’s necessities. Play a high line; have the ability to get back quickly if a ball goes over the top of it.

Don't believe the unlucky thing.

Review the goals and I am sure you will find many mistakes.

None of us know how the game will have panned out if we’d gone 4 at the back. It was rolling the dice. They had very few chances when we had 5 there. We didn't either mind.

Pep has always been about limiting the opposition attack and trying to allow his teams to create and have killers in the box. We weren’t that tonight, but we did limit them effectively, apart from the long ball and the second ball falling to their drama queen.
It was one of those nights where we didn't get the breaks but we put ourselves under massive pressure by playing a negative conservative game to which we are not suited. This should not even be up for discussion. There was absolutely no need to play Fern, Rodri and Gundogan centrally. I have nothing against the individual players but as a team it left is reliant on Sterling making runs so we could find him with long balls and he was frequently isolated. We were very easy to defend against and we're slow centrally. I much prefer players like Foden and Bernardo defending from the front. Lyon were a very beatable side.

Thanks, why do you think he didn't name that team against real then ? Amazing we got past them really.

The back 4 against real was fine, did you complain then that he didn't play Mendy and Garcia ? I suspect not.

You said above that he should have started Bernardo, but this team doesn't, strange that, make your mind up.

For me, I'd have started the exact same 11 that knocked real out, because it has the right mix, but I didn't think Phil had a great game against real, and might have picked Mahrez or Bernardo in his place.

I agree that if we play that formation that we could have played Walker as the RCB, Cancelo at RWB, Mendy as LWB and Foden/Mahrez instead of Jesus, as we weren’t playing a striker, but 2 inside forwards.

The midfield 3 were chosen to keep the ball and we did that well.

Having gone behind, we could have brought either Silva on to try to get between the lines more.

We didn’t get the breaks, as you say, so not sure Pep needs to be sacked because of it.

Yeah unfortunate, but we do make a habit of that also, and first shot scores is another habit we have.

They‘d had a couple of long rangers straight at Eddy to be fair before they scored.

There must be a 6 foot plus centre back who can head, pass a ball and run the 100m in 11 seconds. We just need to find him.
