Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Pep has a high line. Always has. Always will.

We didn’t play 3 DMs. We played Fernandinho at RCB; Rodri at DM and Gundogan as a double pivot further up.
Pretty much what I said.

No real issue with the rest of your post either.

Hindsight.
On here, never, amazing how often their "hindsight" isn't there when we win, like against real.

He played Dinho gundogan and Rodri and shunted KDB to the right, best team he wins a league, in Europe abject failure
Dinho as much as I’ve loved him has no place in a city midfield now. Nor has gundogan. Rodri is too immobil, would happily swap him for Saul or partey plus cash. Only my opinion but we signed the wrong atleti mf

Maybe it’s time to consider a coach like nagelsmann peps a fantastic coach/manager but things do move on,a lot of forward thinking coaches who are now the new wave of coaching ..

He certainly knows how to get the best out of Angeliño, be interesting if they now pay the £25 million for him.

• Pep outfoxed himself, but he was too stubborn or proud to change it early, when he could have slid Ferna into MF, and moved KDB into false nine.
• Ederson saved a Walker OG attempt(!) and a few shots, but is at least 50% to blame for 1st goal (after Walker & Laporte HORRENDOUS @defending”) and 99% to blame for their 3rd.
• Walker is too dumb to play a high line, but his pace usually saves his arse when he allows players to get the wrong side of him. On their 1st, he not only plays another man inside, but he jogs back while watching his own man score the goal unmarked, zero pressure! Players elsewhere on the front line even use him to spring the offside trap and the other defenders are too fucking brain dead to follow the man, then it costs us. Speaking of which...
• Laporte played his worst game in Blue EVER.
• Midfield was slow and ponderous, against a strong and fast opposition, which allowed them into their defensive shell when we got the ball...but even that was only if they didn’t fight to win it back. They didn’t give us a minutes peace, and successfully shut out the outlet pass to the wings repeatedly.
• Sterling...what can you say? He is the worst finisher of any “world class” forward I have ever seen in my 56 yrs on earth. Sure, he can come in from the left, dummy a shot (usually a few times!!!) and wrap one into the far corner every month or so, but for our top scorer to miss the most important goal scoring opportunity of the season, from 5 yards out, with an open goal, on his preferred right foot, is fucking unbelievable...oh wait, no, it isn’t, because he’s gone it before!!! Give me £80M for him now and I’ll take your hand off! OK, £70M, done!
• Cancelo is not a left back, and certainly not in this team. Mendy should have played if we were playing 3/5, and we were looking for the whipped ball in behind.

Lastly, CLINICAL FINISHING. We lack it, winning clubs have it! We score tons of goals, but we miss tons and tons more! Not good enough.

This team is tired. Pep’s system is tired, because even bad clubs know how to nullify it.

Time for some new blood and for a Pep to stop tinkering every fucking day!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I can describe how it was too, 1 was playing RCB in a 3 CB defence, and the other 2 as CM, in a 4 man midfield using wing backs.

I note you've ignored my other question.
Thanks, why do you think he didn't name that team against real then ? Amazing we got past them really.

The back 4 against real was fine, did you complain then that he didn't play Mendy and Garcia ? I suspect not.

You said above that he should have started Bernardo, but this team doesn't, strange that, make your mind up.

For me, I'd have started the exact same 11 that knocked real out, because it has the right mix, but I didn't think Phil had a great game against real, and might have picked Mahrez or Bernardo in his place.
he could have started Bernardo and or Foden. I half expected that he wouldn't start garcia against Real madrid because of his contractual position. I wasn't overly bothered about Cancelo at left back over Mendy.

I have no idea why Pep flipped from the front foot offensive game that we employed against Real madrid which was a triumph to the disaster we saw tonight. Pep seems to over-think these game sometimes and find threats where there are none. My issue was the three central defenders covered by two pedestrian midfielders. It was unnecessary given the opponent. It does not provide us with much defensive solidity as we have seen time and time again and at the same time it takes so much from our offensive game.

I do not take against our own when we lose to the likes of Spurs or Liverpool in the Champions League and I feel that we give our all. But when we come way up short and leave offensive players which we really needed and unnecessarily play a defensive game (predictably poorly) I conclude that Pep cost us. This comes on the back of the FA Cup and a history of errors in European games.
