Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I disagree. Lyon fully deserved to go through. But had the Stirling chance gone in, and we went through, we'd have done it by working hard and scoring fairly, and controlling chunks of the game. which isn't a travesty.

Not even getting into the VAR decision, because pre var, that would have been a goal all day long. As i moan about var overturning decisions on a pixel, won't complain about this one. Could have gone our way, but if roles were reversed i'd be saying not enough in it to rule out a goal.

The margins were elsewhere, and didn't happen. The tactics and set-up didn't help.
City were never going to get that decision. I think every City knew that any Close VAR Calls were always going to go against us.

Like most replies I love pep to bits. The way he sticks up for the club, has won us titles and broke records, all with an attacking style of football.

I think most people would say when we had fernandinho at dm, David Silva at lcm pulling the strings and kdb at rcm, with sterling and sane hugging the touchline and aguero smashing in the goals it was a sight to behold. Added to that we became synonymous with full backs breaking in behind too. So in some ways we had 7 players attacking.

Now attack is clearly the best form of defence for us and has been what’s won us titles and cups in the era era.

It is obviously a concern that last night pep played with 7 defenders or dms and then forced our attacking players out of position. Only Rodri and gundo played in the preferred roles which obviously was fairly evident due to the first half performance being so disjointed.

We obviously were worried about Lyon, but on paper if we had gone all guns blazing would they not have been more worried about us? Lyon played their normal team and were well drilled, other big clubs would not have completely changed the ethos they play to compensate and one of Peps initial statements was that you had to trust yourself which is why we Slightly struggled in his first year.

Anyway onwards on upwards. Ake is a solid player, with pace and doesn’t make many mistakes. He will instantly improve us and give pep more reassurance he can trust the defence. Torres is what I call a fan favourite player, he is dynamic and always on the front foot. I genuinely can’t wait to see him, kdb, foden, Bernardo and Aguero link up.

Last night in my eyes sent a message to the boardroom that we need defenders so it wouldn’t surprise me to see a big name lb and cb come in too.

With all those tools at his disposal I can’t wait to see what we achieve next season!
That's a very optimistic view in the immediate aftermath of a shocking defeat. It's probably our worst defeat ever in Europe because this was not Real Madrid, Barcelona, or rank bad luck, it was managerial ineptitude which raises big questions about the coach. How can a celebrated coach do this? Ferguson was occasionally prone to stupid mistakes that cost them. Perhaps this is one of those moments but this seems to basic and so contradictory to everything that you associate Pep.

He masterminded a good performance and got it spot on against Real Madrid but last night was absurd.

What a terrible thread to read.

Nothing wrong with questioning his tactics, team selection but the name calling and insults of a manager who has won us trophies, played the most breathtaking football and defended the club is depressing to read.

Some fans are just hateful and do not deserve the success and football over the past few years.
He is called the best manager in the world and maybe rightly so BUT he has made so terrible errors this season and he is not above severe criticism.
Last night was appalling, we went out weakly , a shadow of the team we know we are. I don't find that acceptable.

To me football is a simple game, you always play your strongest team, you give 100% commitment. If you match the opposition for commitment your greater ability will always come to the top.

Last night we surrendered to the 7th best team in France, yes the 7th , not Bayern, Not Real, Not Liverpool but Lyon the 7th best team in France.

Pathetic and any manager whom selected that side last night and left the likes of Silva, Bernardo, Mahrez and Foden on the bench and selected a 19 year old kid who has already told us that he no longer wants to be at the club should be absolutely hammered, whoever he is and whatever is reputation is.

Those tactics last night will have done a lot of damage in the dressing room, the like of Bernard and god forbid KDB must be doing a lot of thinking this morning.

Ferguson had more money to spend than Croesus, breaking the transfer record time and time again, and, much as I hated each and every one of them, I’d hardly call Ronaldo, Cantona, Keane, Camelgob, Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Van Nistlehorse, etc, as being merely ‘above average’.....
Fergsuson was a great manager. Pep was. Some managers don'tburn brightly though their entire careers. See Mourinho and Wenger.

If this was a one off from Pep I'd take it. It's becoming a theme and it might have a very damaging effect on his relationship with the players. On the other hand it maybe an aberration and it may drive the group on. I'd like to think that but I expect the players will wake up this morning in shock and their relationship with their coach will be forever changed. He let them down.

I honestly don’t think the players respond to Pep like they used to. You could see in KDB’s interview he was pissed off with the tactics. If he starts to lose our best player’s belief in him then his time is up, it’s just a matter of when. When he joined he had that aura of saying what will happen, how we’ll win, and then it happens. I get the feeling the players are starting to doubt his ideas. I love Pep but it’s difficult to ignore these worrying signs. The end might be close for him. He can recover it by swallowing his pride and learning. But it’s down to him, he hasn’t shown he can do that.

There are four factors which can scupper a team in a given match:
-missed chances
-defensive howlers
-VAR/refereeing
-above all, wrong team selection and tactics.

Unfortunately, we suffered from all four.
The perfect storm.
