Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

No and they should have been 3-0 down in 15 minutes, but Lyon decided to be as wasteful as City often are.
I know that. I think we could have beaten them. I look forward to the PSG game. PSG will definitely cause them problems if they play such a high line but they will also score against PSG of they flood their half which is how they played against barcelona. I suspect that Bayern will change their game for the final. Mbappe and Neymar will kill Bayern if they play like that.

There is a difference though between changing your tactics for Lyon and Bayern. Lyon are a good side but not a great side and I don't think I will ever forget Pep's tactical misdemeanour nor I suspect will many fans. City fans this season are likely to be more critical.

The irony is that many people in the past had argued that Pep was not a great manager for the Champions League because he was not pragmatic enough and would only ever play one way!

I think he did go into the final stages though with a broken defence which probably was behind his changes. I am glad that we have signed Ake but I think we need another central defender to sort it out.

Whilst I agree that City are wasteful finishers, we don't have a problem scoring goals. Any team that goes a goal down puts themselves under pressure and starts snatching at chances.

Poch is nowhere near pep, some fuckers on here need to stand in front of a mirror and give themselves a bollocking for even suggesting this.
Overall I'd stick with Pep but my opinion of him has gone down. I would like to see the full picture though which will unravel next season. Pep in his first season was working with a defence that was flawed and in effect it was the same this season. What top flight team plays a 35 year old midfielder in central defence? I am hoping that with Ake and AN Other 2020/21 will look more like 2018/19.

Did he mess Lyon up ....?
Yes we lost and are out however we played Spurs and Liverpool away in our usual open attacking style got knocked out and castigated in the press
We play Lyon he goes defensive to protect our vulnerable areas
However the first goal is debatable slight Garci error slight Emerson error MAYBE ( maybe great Finnish)
Then with circa 70 percent possession we are level
Sterling horror miss Jesus miss and Laporte VAR moment
Followed by another uncharacteristic Eddie fumble , those misses and mistakes don’t happen we win comfortably
I feel sorry for Pep

However I love him, his honesty and charisma that said sign and commit circa 2/3 years or go
We want stability and continuity during our rebuild
You've got a short memory. We did not play the Spurs (a) tie in our usual way at all. Indeed Pep received a lot of criticism from City fans and the press for being very cautious at the time. Pep explained that he couldn't play his normal game at Spurs at the time because of the physical condition of his squad and the demands placed on us at that time in competing with Liverpool in the Premier League. I think most disappointed City fans accepted that explanation at the time.

Some posters on here are like sponges.

They listen too some know nothing twat on the radio or tv or they read some utter fucking drivel in the red tops and they then repeat it on here, cliches and all as if its gospel.

Pep can only do it with money and top players is the next bullshit line. Now don't get me wrong, like every other manager at the very top of the game, of course he needs money and talent, no fucking shit sherlock but to suggest he suddenly would turn into Sam Allardyce without Merlin or Kun at his disposal is frankly fucking laughable.

29 Major honours and counting.......

The internet in the wrong hands is a dangerous thing.

Sometimes, after a loss, you are just upset for the night and next day everything is fine again. But this loss will follow us for a long time because of the way we lost. Very very disappointing.. I m still mad with our approach of the game.. The pause will give us a world of good and there we go again.

If it's his last year we need to know so we can plan, appoint, recruit and refresh. If he's staying then we need to refresh the squad and clear the deadwood.

Surely we've asked Pep what the hell is going on?
Of course we have, they are tight like brothers, the people who need to know will know

Exactly the same here.

I am trying to place myself in Pep's shoes and I am thinking that he has gone into it wary of past personal criticism, the experience of the Lyon group games, and concern about the state of his defence but I do believe his changes effectively shackled the City side on that night. We were a bit unlucky with the way events unfolded on the night but I am sure that if Pep had held his nerve that night we'd have been in the semis.

I hope this is but one blip in his management rather than a watershed which changes how he's regarded by players and fans. Overall his management at City has been little short of wonderful.

Just to clarify we went to Liverpool and he got his usual knockout champions league yips. He played the main man Gundo on the right instead of Sterling. It was an absolute head scratcher before the game but not as much as Saturday’s line up. Spurs away we played Gundo ahead of KDB and tried to control the game rather than attack and score away goals against a very average side. Yes Sergio missed a pen but we created next to nothing aside from that and he didn’t stick Sané and KDB on until about 3 minutes left. Shocker not scoring away cost us. Over those 3 games where Pep has lost his bollocks we’ve managed 1 goal. Let’s not pretend Pep went for it in those other defeats because he didn’t until he had no choice.

I'm pretty sure Pep changed the tactics because of a combination of previous CL exits and last seasons games vs Lyon. Adopting a more cautious approach is all well and good but instead of playing 3 defensive midfielders, maybe not playing such a high defensive line and leaving acres of space for the opposition to run into would have been a better approach.

Considering it was a more negative line-up, my heart was in my mouth several times when Lyon played the ball through. To be fair, when you think back, they didn't have that many chances, but as always seems to happen against us, the opposition had a deadly chance/conversion ratio.

Still support Pep and want him to extend and will be interesting to see how he changes things in the big games next season.
