Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Pep said last week has has to earn a new contact. After Lyon and now Leicester, too bloody right!

I'm a big fan of Pep, I want him to stay and extend. But more importantly I want to see him reigniting our fire and desire to be the best. I fear however that in such odd times, with constant player unavailability, no fans, and var off it's tits, that may be too much to ask.

This is gradually turning into a 'Hitler in his Bunker' scenario. Great early successes followed by defeats and poor displays as tactics are exposed. Being surrounded by 'Yes Men' to maintain that feeling of security and compliance that prevents challenge to his ideology. For me it's ran its course and there should be no further extension of contract as doing so will have a devastating impact on the troops and they will be poorer for needless defeats due to old and obvious tactics. It's like he keeps playing hide and seek but using the same once great hiding position yet can't understand why he's being found out so easily.

Everything comes to an end and this is no different.
Had a similar discussion with a mate yesterday. I never thought his style of play would be majorly successful in the PL but I was proved wrong. The problem is now I feel we're back where we were with my initial analysis, with a weaker squad. Due to the money around, football has improved at so many teams in the league (which is a good thing) they just let us attack until we blow out of steam then go down the other end and pop in a goal or two. Very frustrating. I'm not sure we can keep buying players to keep giving us the momentum in matches, it feels to me we just need to be more respectful to what other teams can do and make them work harder at times.

I don't think that's Pep's way though.

If he is staying he needs a defensive coach.

Pep looks at the injuries we have and never thinks right let’s protect our fullbacks or let’s be solid! Be stubborn is good trait players known where they stand but come on you look at the fit players and think we can still play the high line?!

12 months playing the same way, 12 months teams hitting us on the break, 12 months of teams of a far lower level than us beating us easily.

You are paying the greatest football manager in the world 13 million pounds and he can't find or is too stubborn to admit his style of football no longers works.

He has to adapt to the players he has available , against the teams we have to play. Total football is wonderful but sometimes you have to go out and play hard and dirty and get the 3 points, we no longer do that, not since the formidables season.

Why?
Nail on the head mate.

Sad to say, the football 2 years ago was magnificent but things have gone very wrong, it has to stop and now.

Otherwise the club will go into quick decline.

Khaldoon has to talk to Pep today, "do you want to rebuild this team and how?" if the answer is no, then say goodbye and thank you and we all move on.

There can be no sentiment in top level sport.

No more pampering Pep with him deciding when and how he wants to extend.

Give him the contract right now, ask him if he is in for the rebuild. If he doesn't want in, immediately go in for Nagelsmann. We need stability but instead we have a manager who is unsure whether he wants to stay, it's affecting his work ethic and its affecting the players on the pitch.

His mother's passing away was very unfortunate and if he feels his heart isn't in the sport, he should take a break.

So true.

Pep Guardiola has been incredible for this club, played stunning , dream football, a pleasure and honour to watch.

BUT, Manchester City FC have also been incredible for Pep Guardiola, he has wanted for nothing, has got everything he asked for, is surrounded by his friends, given the world's finest facilities to work in.

Manchester City is bigger than Pep, bigger than Tixiki , bigger than Messi.

The long term interests of Manchester City Football Club are all that is important.

My thoughts exactly.

Imo he is making a great big hairy arsehole of the job right now, but I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever he will fix it IF he really wants to. But the absolute shambles we witnessed v Lyon & again last night shows there is no guarantee it will happen immediately. It might, but it might take new thinking & a shit season to turn it round.

It might require Pep himself to change some of his thinking & it might take time to get the players organised.

Whatever, we are coming rapidly to the end of the Aguero, Silva, Fern, Kompany era & we need to be able to bring in players with a future team & style in mind.

If Pep 'wants' to do that, then I'll settle for a fuckup season if need be, whilst he gets his head round the best way to do it & be happy for the club to commit to his future.

But if he's unsure about it, plan for next season with someone else.

We don't want to miss players in the next windows because they don't suit Pep, if there is to be no Pep.

I don't think they even need to work on the contract, just tell him they want him to stay for a rebuild & want confirmation it is his intention to do so, even if we have a tricky season.

How many years, etc, can be decided later.

Said at the end of last season he doesn’t deserve a contract on current form and a return of a league cup is not good enough for the resources we have and got abused on here.

Its the same problems over and over, teams sit deep counter with pace and we have no answer, we have been found out and seemingly Pep is doing nothing to change it. I don’t know how involved Pep is with recruitment but Rodri is not the answer in midfield in the system we play, he is far far to slow As is Fernandinho (due to his age) as well as gundogan.

The decision to not replace our best player of all time is naive at best and arrogant at worst, the way he controlled games and created i would wager yesterday’s result would have been different.

My theory is as follows, When Pep came to England most teams adopted a very typical English approach I.e 4 4 2/ 4 5 1 - 2 lines of defences sitting in their own half, knocking it long to the big man up top etc and Peps football works best when against that kind of opposition (see his record v mourinho).

A lot of teams now play a very German style of football with high pressing, lots of pace and energy in the side, quick counter attacking etc. This is the style of football Pep’s style of football struggles against (see his record v Klopp) and is currently the most successful way of playing (see Bayern).

Jose started to struggle once teams over here starting playing similar to how we do because that system works best against a very defensive set up. Now teams over here are adopting a more German way of playing Pep is struggling for the reasons mentioned above. Eventually there will be a system which then exploits the German way of playing (I think we have seen the beginnings of it with the 3 at back system getting more popular with the Man to man marking of a front 3).

Apologies for the long post but that’s my theory anyways. Footballi is always evolving and if you did evolve with it you will be left behind.
