Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Well the high line wasn't a problem when we were pressing properly, if we don't defend from the front then we're fucked.

The question is hwy have we stopped; Injuries, players, pep or another reason entirely?

We are wide open to any fast counter attacking teams , Wolves, Rags, Dippers, Leicester, Lyon, we have spent 100's of millions on defence only to leave them exposed by our high line and weak slow midfield in front of them, Pep 3 years thats all you get, has been fantastic but will not compromise even with the injury's we have, he only knows 1 way and it has been found out.

Totally agree with you.

Pep is primarily responsible for the last season and so far the current. He is the coach and is responsible for selecting and the way he use the players on the field. Why are so many players injured every year? Every year we have problems with a long list of injured players? Why does Pep insist on playing with the same high line regardless of the opponent and our ability to do so ? Pep and the management must take responsibility for this situation.

A lot of things went against us, but you can’t put this all down to unfortunate circumstances. It is very clear that we struggle to defend with our high line against quick attackers. This is not the first time that Vardy has embarrassed us and I don’t think it will be the last. Not unless we start to actually learn from our mistakes.

Recruitment is the single biggest issue that we have. At the centre of recruitment we have Txiki, Ferran and Pep. All three share similar ideas and the environment is too cosy. We’re suffering from groupthink. What we really need to do is bring in an outsider to shake up our recruitment. The scouting could do with a refresh whilst we’re at it.

100% He needs to pick the right times to play the high line, and it's not when the opponents have pace.

Ridiculous to lash out at Pep.

Problems are straightforward:
- Spectacular roster of injuries amongst key senior players including both main strikers.
- No pre-season in which to prepare the squad for the season ahead.
- During the very short break between seasons, most first-choice City players were called up for international duty.

No manager can do much about any of these three factors.

Other unusual factors include extraordinary fixture congestion and zero motivating atmosphere in near-empty stadia.

Recovery from these issues may come too late for a realistic Premiership title challenge this season.
So perhaps the best hope this season is for Cup competitions which progress after the injury crisis (hopefully) recedes.

I certainly wouldn't wish to lose Pep based on three unfortunate factors beyond the control of him or any other manager. A fully-fit and fresh City squad is an entirely different proposition from what Pep is juggling with at the moment. And that is before considering any new transfers arriving before the window closes.

Sometimes you just have to acknowledge unfortunate circumstances. Today is one of those times. It's not on Pep.

And speaking of bad luck, when was the last time City had THREE penalties awarded against them in a single match?

The most welcome news for me right now would be Pep signing a long contract extension.
12 months playing the same way, 12 months teams hitting us on the break, 12 months of teams of a far lower level than us beating us easily.

You are paying the greatest football manager in the world 13 million pounds and he can't find or is too stubborn to admit his style of football no longers works.

He has to adapt to the players he has available , against the teams we have to play. Total football is wonderful but sometimes you have to go out and play hard and dirty and get the 3 points, we no longer do that, not since the formidables season.

Why?

Pep says he needs to earn a new contract. Next game we get beat 5-1. For ages his demeanour has been very poor. He delivers lines like 'I am so happy to be at the Club' and his face says the opposite. He is clearly unhappy. I dont want this version of pep leading our club backwards. I would like the one that learns and adapts his 'philosophy' to meet the changing environment. He really does need to look at himself in the mirror and either address the obvious problems or leave and let someone else do it. Its far too cosy and nice at the top. The three of them need a rocket from Khaldoon.

Agreed a title winning side once 1-0 keeps a clean sheet not conceding 5 playing football that is designed to keep the ball in the opposition half for 90 minutes purely pie in the sky stuff.

Why you say its been drummed out of the playing group and by and large we don't have players or enough of them that can graft , out muscle and scare the living bejesus out of the opposition.

Most of the game is played above the shoulders and if Pep is to be believed that we became frightened ( Leicester at home might you relying on a 33 year old with pace to tear a so called elite team apart which he easily did ) then Pep is the problem as much as the poor recruitment over the past 2 seasons ( I maintain it goes further back than that even before Pep took over but the game has moved on and we have not )

Pep might be a great manager but he is going to be yesterdays news if he doesn't adapt if he isn't already.

This is gradually turning into a 'Hitler in his Bunker' scenario. Great early successes followed by defeats and poor displays as tactics are exposed. Being surrounded by 'Yes Men' to maintain that feeling of security and compliance that prevents challenge to his ideology. For me it's ran its course and there should be no further extension of contract as doing so will have a devastating impact on the troops and they will be poorer for needless defeats due to old and obvious tactics. It's like he keeps playing hide and seek but using the same once great hiding position yet can't understand why he's being found out so easily.

Everything comes to an end and this is no different.
