Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Pep certainly shouldn’t escape blame for the tactics, but for me the reason behind this is that we’ve managed the squad poorly over the last several years. I’ve said this a million times but in the transfer market we used to compete to sign the best, most in-demand, players in the world and now we seemingly sign guys primarily because they have release clauses or because we don’t have to bid against anyone. We’ll see it again when we let Haaland go by this summer – for whatever reason we’ll pass on one of the most obvious signings at a position of need that I’ve ever seen so we can spend €60M on Patson Daka or something. There's so many examples, but off the top of my head:

  • How is left back STILL such a mess? The Mendy situation is what it is, but how have we gone this long and our options are either him, Zinchenko, and Cancelo? One is a nice guy who should have been moved on ages ago and the other is not a left back, one-footed, and as far as I can tell was only bought because Danilo wanted to go and he happened to be available.
  • Why did we dominate the league with Ferna as our most important player at the six and then replace him with a guy who plays nothing like him?
  • Why did we buy Mahrez at all?
  • Pet peeve of mine but why do we struggle for foreign spots then waste one on backup keepers that never play?
  • Why, last year, did we not bother buying a Vinny Kompany replacement until we let it ruin the season?
  • Why, this year, did we not bother buying a David Silva replacement until we let it ruin the season?
  • (watch this space for next year when we buy a 21 year old Sergio Aguero replacement from the Portuguese league)
The whole thing is frustrating because it's not even one thing, it's all these little things that build up over time and all of a sudden you end up with a billion pound squad where KDB is the only world class player in it (Raheem can rejoin when he feels like it). Hopefully we can turn it around, but I think it's going to take a change in the recent strategy and a whole bunch of outgoings as well.
Spot on . When Pep came Kolorov was left back and we are still weaker in that position. Negligence.

The players need to do their jobs and if not possible transfer to another club. We had this player revolt under Bobby Manc and it ended with them throwing away an FA cup. We are not Chelsea-I back Pep all the way. His mistakes are honest and his intentions clear. If the players cant handle his intense style then i suggest they go to another club.

The passing, finishing and movement is atrocious - Certainly not Peps fault.
Was the Lyon selection down to the players too?

Pep is the best coach in the world for me. Easily top two anyway. Best football English football has ever witnessed from us in the last 4 years.

Having said that, I don't see how the football we're playing will suddenly get better under him. We look bereft of ideas and that's because his football is draining physically but more importantly mentally imo. Usual suspects will reply calling me a clown or telling me to fuck off, but that's my opinion.

I fail to see how it's the board's fault that we play with a flat line of six, static, attackers on the edge of the box and rely on a combination of Rodri, Gundogan and Fernandinho to create chances.

It's almost as if it's Pep's decision to play that way, God forbid.

Collectively they all got it wrong. The players could and should of played better against Lyon. Far too many hiding behind and blaming the system. When did we last have a stand out individual deciding the outcome of games like yesterday?

Mahrez against the mighty Burnley.

It's a good point. Quite a few fans are stating week in week out how we are about to get going. It's not happened and shows no sign of starting anytime soon. We are so far off it's unbelievable.

joking aside it would be good if the manager could find a style or system to get the best of the players again. He's made countless errors in big games for a long time. Could always fall back on yes but if Sterling hadn't missed that sitter against x but maybe it's because he's a poor finisher.
