Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Thought Pep was going to grab the time board off Taylor last night at one point. He needs to be careful at times on the touch line.

He looked well frustrated and not surprised.

Nonsense. This season will be a transitional one. Then next season we’ll win the league.

Pep is going no where so get behind him.
Thought last season was transitional? We are not seeiing a team transition we are seeing a team totally out of ideas and a manger struggling to change it . Hope your right and
Pep certainly shouldn’t escape blame for the tactics, but for me the reason behind this is that we’ve managed the squad poorly over the last several years. I’ve said this a million times but in the transfer market we used to compete to sign the best, most in-demand, players in the world and now we seemingly sign guys primarily because they have release clauses or because we don’t have to bid against anyone. We’ll see it again when we let Haaland go by this summer – for whatever reason we’ll pass on one of the most obvious signings at a position of need that I’ve ever seen so we can spend €60M on Patson Daka or something. There's so many examples, but off the top of my head:

  • How is left back STILL such a mess? The Mendy situation is what it is, but how have we gone this long and our options are either him, Zinchenko, and Cancelo? One is a nice guy who should have been moved on ages ago and the other is not a left back, one-footed, and as far as I can tell was only bought because Danilo wanted to go and he happened to be available.
  • Why did we dominate the league with Ferna as our most important player at the six and then replace him with a guy who plays nothing like him?
  • Why did we buy Mahrez at all?
  • Pet peeve of mine but why do we struggle for foreign spots then waste one on backup keepers that never play?
  • Why, last year, did we not bother buying a Vinny Kompany replacement until we let it ruin the season?
  • Why, this year, did we not bother buying a David Silva replacement until we let it ruin the season?
  • (watch this space for next year when we buy a 21 year old Sergio Aguero replacement from the Portuguese league)
The whole thing is frustrating because it's not even one thing, it's all these little things that build up over time and all of a sudden you end up with a billion pound squad where KDB is the only world class player in it (Raheem can rejoin when he feels like it). Hopefully we can turn it around, but I think it's going to take a change in the recent strategy and a whole bunch of outgoings as well.
spot on post that mate . Do you think it will be Nunez aswell ? As for David silva a lot on here thought foden was a ready made replacement for arguably our greatest ever player. When will pep learn that Rodri and gundo is so negative and boring .

he was frustrated they didnt look at the penalty incident, not how many minutes they were adding on, when gundo had the header near the end jesus was clearly dragged back

He can make a squad of great players exceptional, best in the business at that I have no doubt. However when the standard of player drops he ain’t that good. Plenty of decent managers would do no worse or even better than the position and results he’s been getting.

There’s no proof of that
The issue for me, and it’s the same for all the clubs playing in Europe, is the time the coach has on the training pitch with his players Playing twice a week, more in this month, allows no time to spend on tactics, we know that Pep’s system takes a lot of leaning so it’s compounded. He’s also had to bed new players and cope with the loss of David Silva and the ageing Kun and Ferdy

I do, yeah. Everything about him screams Manchester City transfer target. And to be fair, I've seen him play like three times, I'm sure he's really good and it's nothing against him specifically. I just think we need a shift in strategy.

Right now, because we pretty much exclusively buy that exact profile the squad dynamics are weird. Outside of KDB we don't have any world class, big game, players who go down 0-1 in a Champions League semi-final and say "fuck this, we're not losing this game" and at the same time we also have £60m backups who don't play enough to stay in good form and are unsellable because they're overpaid.

The proof is that is he was shit hot at Barca Munich and City with very strong sides that were new and receptive to his way of playing which takes a lot out of them.

The spine of a great team have now left or close to due to age and we have been poor last season and this. If that’s not even a consideration for you I can’t help. I’ve just stated on another thread that the excuse of Covid and a congested calendar is a huge cop out.
