Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Is he getting the best out of the squad?

Not anymore, thats how it feels like.

Loss of hunger, motivation is there for all to see and that comes from the manager. I watched Liverpool today and they wanted to win and they were hungry for the 3 points.

Compare that with our mentality vs Liverpool earlier or United game last week. We were content with a draw against them.

When I look at us when we can make a run we always slow down, cutback, recycle it then give it away or end with a shot that is not good enough. Seriously we wait until defences get back, reorganize themselves into parked bus and then we try to break it up with hardly any success usually. Thats bad mentality/bad tactics.

Hard to see that Pep will be be able to outfox Hasenhuttl on Saturday, even tough we have so much stronger squad than Soton its incredible how they are above us on the table just before Christmas.

Who are our best players this season based on form? Walker and Dias maybe? Rest of them are between mediocre, rubbish and horrible form.

Big reaction was needed after the way we lost the title to Liverpool and the way we lost against Lyon in a CL. And then everyone bar two players are in very bad form around Christmas. What reaction is that?

Pep created this team and he will fix what’s broken. I am hoping the penny has finally dropped and he makes the necessary changes to get the team winning again. We all were bored of the easy 3/4 zero games anyway:)

If I could pick 1 specific issue that is the root cause of our problems it is the players attitudes.

Far 2 many times have I seen them get beat one on ones. They constantly lose 50/50 battles.

Far 2 many times have I seen them smile when another chance goes begging.

Far 2 many times have I seen them laugh when points are dropped.

The hunger and desire from this group is gone. Pep spoke about in the past and he got it wrong and so did city as a club. We should of made bigger changes after the last title. The players are coasting and it shows. They are happy to be rotated from match to match. Were is the pride and fight to keep the shirt?

Get rid now.

We all know the players that need to be moved on.
This is our biggest mistake.

We need to be ruthless now. It’s one thing letting Dave and Sergio ride into the sunset but it is not an acceptable attitude for city to continue with players who have no hunger and desire to win.

Grr... I tried to post this in the "has Pep run this race" thread but it's gone, so its going here :)

I'm all up for giving Pep a bollocking when the guy makes mistakes, like he did yesterday. However, if we think he's "run his race", just wait and see which teams come in for him if we give him the boot. I'll give you a clue, it's not going to be Crewe, Norwich and Bradford. It will be the best clubs in Europe - we're talking PSG, AC, Juventus, Barcelona and of course he will be offered unimaginable money to go to China and will be offered every national job going.

Yesterday was absolutely rank, no question, and I said as much. But overall when we look over the months and years, he's getting more right than wrong. The trophy haul backs that up! Not only that, when he gets it right, it's not just good it's the best football EVER PLAYED in England and he's broken records I didn't know existed and will probably never be broken for a generation. Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho did not match the Fourmidables or Centurions and I regard these managers as amongst the greatest ever in the PL. This season is a strange one and you can clearly see that our players - and other teams players - are off the pace. We're only 5 points off the top and a 6 points from a relegation scrap (well... Arsenal!). No team is going to run away with the league this year. We've been spoilt thinking we should be hitting 50 points at Christmas.

I do think the club cocked up giving him a small extension. It should have been 5 years - a bold statement to tell the fans, other clubs, our current players and future players what the plan is.

In all honesty, I do think that what you are seeing is Pep gearing the team for the CL. I don't like bringing him up, but a certain purple-nosed manager struggled for 25 years to balance winning the PL and winning the CL. Pep's had 5 years or so now and is trying to find a way to make us hard to beat which we need to be in Europe and if we don't concede goals in the PL, we will the title. Granted, it's not great to watch but come on the guys got some credit with us hasn't he? He has managed the best teams in Europe, he knows how good they are and he knows what needs to be done but he is struggling this year as most managers are. This is by far the hardest season of the hardest league in the world and whether you're Pep, Fergie, Klopp, Mourinho etc you are constantly being challenged in this league.

I don't doubt for one minute that, in private, there's some bloody heated conversations going on. I can imagine that Pep and the DoFs, the scouts and the Shiekh are all demanding to win every trophy going. Do you think Pep wants to pick between Mendy, Cancelo or Zinchenko? He doesn't. He wants to create the finest club team that has ever existed. He wants people to talk about his Barca, Bayern and City teams in the same breath as Brazil 70.

I'm all up for giving a kicking to guys who deserve it and Pep has deserved it this year. However, I'm prepared to give him a fallow season if it means we come back stronger than ever. This season IS a turkey season, there won't be crowds or parades. Of course feel free to criticise him, but give him some credit at least. If he's shockingly short at the end of the season, I might change my mind but until then...

... he hasn't run his race :)
I think Liverpool will finish more than 17 points ahead of us come seasons end but you would expect that with the quality of the squad we have , its really a lot worse than many suggest our recruitment has been very poor over the past 3 seasons and with aging warriors some leaving some obviously like Kun and Ferny in the end of their career at this level and not being replaced by hardened players up for the fight we have hit the skids.

Betting against City winning alone and you have already made a fortune this year in 12 games.

No sugar coating it a huge clean out is needed and poor recruitment strategy buying the wrong type of player over the past 3 seasons if not more in fact in truth has meant no smooth transition and a drop in performance level.

I don't regard our squad as good as Manure's even and their manager isn't rated much to boot.

81 points last season , will be pushing to get to 66 this season our lowest total since the Hughes era.

So Liverpool win again. This is not a slander on Pep in anyway shape or form but with these many injuries for us last season we were really struggling and Liverpool sit top of the table ( help with VAR or not).
Klopp and Pep are two different managers and maybe the table will look different come season end but the lack of a plan B really harms us in many ways.

Direct football & can pep learn off others.

Its Txiki Begiristian who needs to be fucked off. He has absolutely insane obsession spending absolutely shitloads of cash on back up players. Use that cash to build much better first XI, if you back ups are not as good then so be it.
Agreed, we have some serious talent now coming through the academy, they should be the backup players and as you say, spend the big money on the very best players to make us title challengers again.

We are desperate for a world class striker and central midfield player.

He has abandoned plan A and plan B is fuced

We have far too many 'nice" personalities on this team, and we are far too soft.

David Silva was the nicest, most gentle human being off the pitch but when he crossed that white line he was a hard, tough little bastard who did not like to lose.

We need some winners and tough guys in this squad, backroom staff and execs.

Ruben Dias is a good start , now let's get a few more with his desire and attitude.

Sure he would quickly step into another big job but that is not the same as arguing that his race may well be run here. Turkey season or not games have to be won and a decline noted by many starting 18 months ago seems to be gathering pace. Now I would agree that it is too early to reach conclusions just yet but it it very hard at present to ignore the warning signs. A few wins over the next few games are vital I believe if not the race may well be run.
