Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Guardiola has been brilliant. He is a record breaker and we play outstanding football. Only idiots believe otherwise and this morning's posts are, to a large part, embarrassing and emotionally driven.

Last night was poor. He got it wrong. Eterson got it wrong, VAR got it wrong and Raz got it wrong. Bad night.

Fair enough, but he got it wrong at Monaco 3 years ago, Anfield 2 years ago, and WHL last year as well. He’s also been beaten by the exact same opposition gambit this season by United (twice), Wolves (twice), Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Southampton, Norwich and Arsenal (FA Cup). Being beautiful in possession is great, but if you can’t produce solutions to specific problems to go with it, it’s far from the be all end all

My old boss always used to say that he didn’t believe the numbers but he did believe the trend. We have underperformed in the CL for four successive seasons and that now feels like a trend to me.

For me, it's not about wanting Pep to leave or be sacked. It's about the club not sleepwalking into another massive issue without any plan.

This club has hung its hat on a football style that can only really be implemented by Pep. We started that a long time before he even agreed to come here.

I don't want us to be constantly waiting for a manager to decide whether he wants to renew or being concerned that he'll walk in one day and think he needs a rest now.

He either signs a 2-3 year extension or we look forward and find a replacement. At the minute the manager is far bigger than the club. We are better than that.

We've seen what sleepwalking into a mess like this does a couple of times recently. United did it with that Govan piss an, by letting him essentially run the club. When he went, they had no idea what to do and have bumbled from one bad decision to another. You could also argue we've done the same with the Kompany situation and his lack of replacement and we are about to do the same with Aguero and Pep.

What a terrible thread to read.

Nothing wrong with questioning his tactics, team selection but the name calling and insults of a manager who has won us trophies, played the most breathtaking football and defended the club is depressing to read.

Some fans are just hateful and do not deserve the success and football over the past few years.

Fuck sake, thought I might’ve dreamt it.

Fuck off Pep and your shit changes. There’s a reason the likes of liverpool, Bayern win the thing, they play their best team whenever they can

If we had squeaked through last night, it would have been a bit of a travesty to Lyon to be fair.

We didn't deserve to qualify............

I disagree. Lyon fully deserved to go through. But had the Stirling chance gone in, and we went through, we'd have done it by working hard and scoring fairly, and controlling chunks of the game. which isn't a travesty.

Not even getting into the VAR decision, because pre var, that would have been a goal all day long. As i moan about var overturning decisions on a pixel, won't complain about this one. Could have gone our way, but if roles were reversed i'd be saying not enough in it to rule out a goal.

The margins were elsewhere, and didn't happen. The tactics and set-up didn't help.

For the people comparing sacking Ferguson every time he had a bad defeat, difference is he almost never had one of the best squads in Europe, and when he did, he went and won the bloody thing. Generally he got above average players performing at a higher level and when they did lose, it was to vastly superior teams. Guardiola fucks up against bang average teams time and time again.

Ferguson had more money to spend than Croesus, breaking the transfer record time and time again, and, much as I hated each and every one of them, I’d hardly call Ronaldo, Cantona, Keane, Camelgob, Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Van Nistlehorse, etc, as being merely ‘above average’.....

Yeah and he won the CL with those players. When he didn't have those players he still performed reasonably well in europe. For those players you mentioned most of the time they were in the company of david may Gary/Phil Neville, nicky butt, john o shea, jesper blomqvist, jordi cruyff etc. My original point being though, united got knocked out by superior teams, we dont.

And last season was different.

I am not going to defend last night too much. I think he got it wrong in attack and we needed a creative player. Unfortunately, some of our legends are at an end: Fern looks done to me, Silva is off, one more season from Aguero, Ota gone et al. I think Pep is utterly brilliant but with Vinnie too, that's a lot of leadership lost and the rebuild is a bigger job than many realise. We have great players but this season in the CL has again shown that we are vulnerable to atleticism, just as Real and Barca were and there are parallels between the three sides.

Torres and Ake will prove to be good buys due to their skill and athletic talents. Foden will improve and be more integral and Bernardo will hopefully rise again. I think we need a powerhouse, box to box, in midfield and a very athletic left back, akin to Walker. I'd like THB to be integrated into the first team, along with a couple more from the Academy too.

Like most replies I love pep to bits. The way he sticks up for the club, has won us titles and broke records, all with an attacking style of football.

I think most people would say when we had fernandinho at dm, David Silva at lcm pulling the strings and kdb at rcm, with sterling and sane hugging the touchline and aguero smashing in the goals it was a sight to behold. Added to that we became synonymous with full backs breaking in behind too. So in some ways we had 7 players attacking.

Now attack is clearly the best form of defence for us and has been what’s won us titles and cups in the era era.

It is obviously a concern that last night pep played with 7 defenders or dms and then forced our attacking players out of position. Only Rodri and gundo played in the preferred roles which obviously was fairly evident due to the first half performance being so disjointed.

We obviously were worried about Lyon, but on paper if we had gone all guns blazing would they not have been more worried about us? Lyon played their normal team and were well drilled, other big clubs would not have completely changed the ethos they play to compensate and one of Peps initial statements was that you had to trust yourself which is why we Slightly struggled in his first year.

Anyway onwards on upwards. Ake is a solid player, with pace and doesn’t make many mistakes. He will instantly improve us and give pep more reassurance he can trust the defence. Torres is what I call a fan favourite player, he is dynamic and always on the front foot. I genuinely can’t wait to see him, kdb, foden, Bernardo and Aguero link up.

Last night in my eyes sent a message to the boardroom that we need defenders so it wouldn’t surprise me to see a big name lb and cb come in too.

With all those tools at his disposal I can’t wait to see what we achieve next season!
