Pep's First Training Session - Video

I clearly saw Kidd on the video speaking with Arteta i think.. He is there.

Must say I am surprised at how excited everyone seems to be after seeing a bit of the first training session where they just did very basic things which will as much be about Pep getting to know the players he had as it was getting them working in a certain way. It was very very similar to watching Mancini in his early days in how he held the middle of the pitch, barking instructions out and looking closely at how the players moved together as the ball switched around the pitch.

He was calling Bony's names too much for my liking. Hope it is because his name is easy to remember...

Ok. End of flap. Great video :)

Dunno if anyone posted something along these lines here but I seen this regarding the training videos:

Notice when Pep asks for the other ball, he deliberately plays the ball to the other side of the pitch and yells "ball is here" to watch how the players transition from offense/defense.

Offense: Are they getting wide enough fast enough? Are they getting to the byline and adjusting body shape to see the whole field? Those types of things.

Defense: Are they getting goal-side quickly? Are they recognizing dangerous space and plugging it as soon as the ball changes possession?

The second time he asks for the ball, he changes directions multiple times. He is training them to think about offense and defense simultaneously. The thought process should be something along the lines of "We have the ball, I should be an option, where can I play if I receive it." AND "If we lose the ball, I need to move there to interrupt that sequence or run."

Some of the players might not even understand that this is what is going on in their minds, but it will become instinctive with enough reps.

Thought it was interesting.

I just want to show you two analyst videos that I just found of the Germany-Italy match as it shows very well what Pep wants defensively

That training session was a joy to watch, the speed and intensity was excellent. You can see right in the video how demanding a coach Pep is. If you work hard, and show a tactical understanding then you'll flourish.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but something interesting i noticed from the videos is how he's got the keepers joining in with the 1/2 touch passing circles. Under Pellegrini the keepers went off on their own and did their own thing from the start until they came together for games at the end. Interesting to see whether it's just something he wants to do at the start to get used to everyone or whether that's common practice for him.

Just been watching the latest video on YouTube.....

Who is the guy near the end giving encouragement to Gunn? He's been with us for ages and. I've seen him with the England squad as well.
