Pep's First Training Session - Video

That was the most interesting training session I've ever watched from City TV (if not most interesting full stop), especially as it was the first day of training these players have had under Pep. I believe the first day was about first giving the players a taste of what's to come but also I think he will have been watching closely how they all responded during it and after it... In other words watching who put maximum effort in and took on board what he was saying rather than stand asking "Why are we doing this?" and who came off that field smiling at the end of the session. A lot of managers say they don't care about reputations and talk about giving lesser known players a chance over big name players but I get the sense if he saw a player fits the role he needs and was taking on-board what he wanted from him better then Pep would actually have the balls to go with that option, he really means business.

Players will have either gone home today buzzing at how engaging it was and hearing his input, eager to learn what's next or they would be slightly worried about the upcoming pre-season and whether they'll be able to keep up with everybody.

Just from day one you can see the way he wants the team to play. Look forward to when the rest of the squad get back in training.

Glad to see changes on the first day and Pep is very confident of his approach that it was a masterclass for the other coaches.

I know the players away need a break as much as want a holiday, but If I was one of them and saw that video I'd be getting my holiday out of the way and coming back early.

I mean, what the actual fuck is Pep doing coaching Yaya, Bony, Delph, Fernando & Kolarov? He must be thinking "what the hell have I signed up for when 2 months ago I was coaching Thiago, Muller, Neuer, Lahm, Lewandowski etc."

Farcical really now you see it in reality.
Yaya, Delph, Fernando and Kolarov are great footballers, and Bony is better than Julian Green. He was well aware of who was on this team and it didn't stop him from coming?

Thought the same when I was watching it. If I was a player i'd want to be there training under Pep right away.

Great to watch.

Struck me that it's been a long while since bluemoon posters have been largely (think of another word for united) behind the manager. Early days yet of course, but the whole atmosphere seems to have changed.
Usually lasts till about 6 games in. Remember the Villa 3-2 loss warning us of Pellegrini's failings.

Just fascinating to watch. Starting from the back, working from the GK out and any attack gets snuffed for now because this is more important.

Just watched it again, this team/squad are going to have a system at last. You can see how he will drill it into their heads exciting times ahead!

Bloody hell, I thought it was that rag goalie walking out behind Kelechi for a minute. I presume it's Gunn?!
Lol, never really noticed that before but yeah, that's Angus Gunn.

If you watch the 'Pep's first day' video he's watching the U13's on the indoor pitch and even though he's listening and responding to the people speaking around him if you watch his eyes they're constantly tracking back and forth on the young lads as they're training. Every one of them should be walking on cloud nine now he's there.

Are we finally going to see this crop of players play to their collective ability? If we do there are not many that can stand up to us.

I think he was trying to get away from players being programmed to follow the ball, and by introducing another changed the direction and the position that players should take up. This helps when it comes to finding space to receive the ball plus works on their fitness away from the gym. I watched a couple of training sessions two years ago and it was just repetition and not very inspiring. Today was just a glimpse that maybe the players will find it more stimulating under a progressive coach - At least that was my take on it ha!
Thanks. That makes sense.
