Pep's Press Conferences - Watford (A) Post Match (Page 129)

On the whole he speaks well in the presser and tbf admits he is making mistakes and this league is a ****.

This is good to hear.

However he then makes an utter bell of himself by saying he doesn't think tackling is important and he doesn't train the players around tackling or 2nd balls.

This is not good to hear and tells me enough to know, unless he readjusts his thinking, this guy wont be a success in England.

I agree what a stupid notion that we shouldn't tackle, the players are used to doing it and should just do it when it needs doing, biazarre

I'm not sure that's what he meant. He explained by saying 'what is tackles? 4 minutes 2-0, we didn't concede because of tackles'.. he's right in this context. He did say 'we must win the duels' though. Maybe lost in translation a little?

That's what I took from it - however, what is alarming is apart from the first dozen or so games we now have little or no pressing of the ball. The space they were given, as were Chelsea, was criminal. Coupled with hoofing the ball up field which resulted in quick loss of possession and goals 1,3 and 4 and we are a team with no identity. I can't understand why he cannot see that Sagna and Kolarov are not tight enough - allowing players time and space. Second goal for example, Kolarov was five yards off his man who had no pressure and was able to lay it off for an easy shot. This sets a tone, and all of them were guilty today just incase you think I am putting this all on those two . Compare that to Albrighton who harried and closed space - Albrighton for Gods sake... Come on Pep you will never be able to play the way you want with a team littered with over 32 year olds who don't work hard enough. You bought Nolito, Sane, Gundogan, and Stones to the club yet they are the ones who you seem to keep on the fringes whilst we have to endure Navas, Kolarov, Sagna, Fernando and lately Yaya plod through games. I am seriously worried that at the first sign of trouble you have reverted to trusting the very same players who virtually gave up last year. As a fan I am also baffled by the substitution today, bringing on Yaya to play up front -who is not only a player who's legs are shot - but one who slows us to a standstill - instead of trusting Sane who must surely be the future is madness. The sooner these core players are out of the club the better. Blimey I'm depressed.

Yep, but twatty thinks we don't need to tackle , it beggars belief how clueless he is about the PL league.

He's too cocky by far , no fucking idea about this league , his arrogance is astounding at times, no tacking ? Really ?

If you tackle and do not tackle right - and that happens often - you easily go a man down because of a red card or you tackle and are out of the scene. It is often better to accompany the player and interfere later, get him off his track further from goal etc.

Guardiola is not the only one that does not like defenders to tackle - Löw thinks like this, too.
