Pep's Press Conferences - Watford (A) Post Match (Page 129)

We have the best manager in world football who openly answers questions each week on his team, tactics his players with humility, the press are constantly digging round for shit each and every presser, yet when it's a presser at united the questions are always more watered down and less personal- and that arsehole has done nothing but fucking moan ever since landing in the country .

Our press department have always come across as soft and too open, its needs reigning in it's going too far .

The TV and press pander to the clubs with the biggest potential audiences- what a fucking sad state football is if that's what it's come to- seriously thinking of fucking it off next season as it's just going too far now, that Taylor performance was the single most biased refereeing performance we will ever likely to see yet not a fucking sniff of a question about Taylor from the press.

Interesting that he thinks that there should be 5 or 6 substitutions allowed a game.

They have multiple subs in rugby union, usually change most of the forwards after an hour, and it often seems to me that teams then lose their fluency.

There would be quite a backlash if he pushes this, it would undoubtedly be portrayed as big clubs with big squads trying to gain a further advantage over the minnows.

I just love the way this guy runs his press conferences! Even if he knew nothing about the game, ran his teams badly, etc., I'd still say he's a complete master in handling journos. When he's not interested in answering a question, either because he thinks it's impertinent, or irrelevant, or because he simply doesn't have an informed opinion, he just closes it down. He's firm, without being on the defensive, or abrupt. And when he's got something to say, he really develops it – as with the question about subsitutions, which he chose to interpret as being a question about too many matches now being played. It's clearly something close to his heart (as an ex-player, apart from anything else). He's far, far better in press conferences than Pellegrini or Mancini (or Hughes) ever were. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, he'll be judged on trophies and the way he develops the club as a whole — not on press conferences – but I can honestly say I enjoy watching his pressers more than any other manager in the PL, and not just because he's City's manager.

I agree with most of what you're saying but I disagree about that he is far, far better than Mancini. I think Bobby dealt with them okay, bearing in mind he had Mario on board.
