Pep's Press Conferences - Watford (A) Post Match (Page 129)

I agree with most of what you're saying but I disagree about that he is far, far better than Mancini. I think Bobby dealt with them okay, bearing in mind he had Mario on board.
They are very different but yes they both have the press's number, bobby had Tevez as well as mario acting up and half the players hated him but he did ok in his press conferences

Both points well taken. Yes, Pep does not have Mario to deal with. Of course, the question arises as to whether Mario would have got out of hand as much as he did with Pep around. Same for Carlito. Pep has a natural authority that is very rare. And by the way, I'm not getting at Roberto, and ok, maybe I overstated it. I absolutely revere Roberto Mancini who, in some respects, had a more difficult job to do than Pep currently has. He had to convince a club that had not been champions for 44 years that they could do it, that our natural place was right at the top, that we could eclipse neighbours whose shadow we had largely lived in for twenty years. That job is done, and both Pellegrini and Guardiola have walked into an elite club on the English scene (although not necessarily the case as far as Europe is concerned – that is exactly part of Pep's remit, now).
I just think that Roberto would very quickly start to sound defensive in press interviews. This was partly to do with the fact that he never thoroughly mastered English.

I don't think Guardiola speaks well at all. Neither did Mancini.

Including all of the training fights in full view of the cameras. Mancini had to face a very hostile press from Day 1. He managed to win them round before losing many of them again towards the end of his final season.

Pep received a much more positive welcome but also will get more stick if things go wrong. You cant really judge a manager's ability to handle the press until they've had a bad run, worse than Pep is currently going through. Hopefully that will not happen.

He looked shell shocked on the TV seems to have got his mojo back a bit for the main conference.
