I was not speaking to his abilities in general, its well documented that he is phenomenal as the fulcrum of a team. No one doubts or questiond thst. I was just musing over the fact that we were linked to both him and Pogba. I think on purely defensive effort, he and Pogba are the weakest members of their squads midfield quartets.
Of course if I had a choice of all of Dortmund's midfielders, I'd take Gundogan. Everyone will. Same with Pogba at Juve. That said, this doesn't negate the fact they are both the weakest midfielders on their squad's defensively.

Denayer will be the fullback in my opinion. Don't know if we'll get a center back or not, but I hope we do. Solve the half a season Kompany problem once and for all.Can't see Laporte or Stones happening and I honestly don't believe we need another CB with Denayer returning. Just two new fullbacks, a couple midfielders and possibly a winger.

I hope so. Not sold on Mangala. And every summer we think we are fine, and then Komp goes down for a long period and we looked fukked.Could well be. I think he'll be used in both roles and possibly elsewhere. I don't think we'll need another, we'll have Denayer coming in to replace Demi which means 4 top class centre halves which will all improve and fare better in Peps system.
In a proper system under Pep all of our central defenders will actually preform. Pellegrinis system exposes our defense and makes our defenders look crap. wont happen anymore. Keeping the 3 we have now and adding Denayer to Demi is all that we need in central defense. I think a lot of our fans dont rate Denayer, which is weird. He can play fullback, centrally n defensive mid. The lads passes better than most in our current team and i was furious that he got left out for Demi last summer.
