Pep will no doubt view football a little bit differently to most people on here though and i'd argue that he will want Yaya to stick around as he will be the only player in our squad who Pep will have worked with. I think Pep will use him much the same way as he uses Xabi at Bayern and i think it will make a lot of bluemooners eat some humble pie.

That's what is great about Pep coming in. None of us have a clue what he'll do with the exisiting squad. I think the only 3 who I would be 100% sure are sticking around are Aguero, De-Bruyne and Sterling (obviously there will be more than that, but as I see it their the only 3 I would confidently lay money down on that they are staying).

I would add Kompany, Silva and Fernandinho to that list but the 3 you mentioned are definitely going nowhere.
 
Guardiola doesn't do 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 really, he will tinker with the formation and tactics until he gets it right in his own mind, second guessing him would be impossible to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if he came in and tried a number of things which on the surface people will be asking, what is he doing? but it will be to get an idea of the players he has and where they can possibly play, pep loves flexible players who can adapt to playing different positions.

for example, as someone mentioned in this thread, I could see him coming in and trying Delph at left wing back, Fernandinho at right wing back (which I actually think he could be brilliant at) Denayer in central midfield... to name but a few.

Not sure about Fernandinho as a wing back. He's one of my favourite players but I think his biggest weakness is his positional sense when we're in possession.

Work rate, pace, tackling and a surprisingly big jump suggest he would be capable of a more defensive position but he doesn't deal with counterattacking teams well. Seeing as that's how most teams play now - especially against us - playing him as a wing back could be suicidal.

I think it would depend on what sort of formation we were playing, and how much he was being actually asked to defend, what i mean is if we were playing 3 central defenders (out of our current squad say - Sagna (right hand side) Kompany (central) Mangala (left hand side) then it would mean the 2 wing backs would be given licence to get forward without having to be relied on to do too much defending as they will always be covered by the centre back from their side. If a move were to break down then there should be enough defenders to cover until the wing back could get back into position and help out. Essentially not too dissimilar to the job Alaba has done for Bayern on there left hand side on occasion. good on the ball, very athletic and fit enough to get up and down the pitch at a good speed.

the reason i think he would be good as more of a right midfielder / right wing back is because i think he could be very good at getting forward to support attacks from there, not necessarily the defensive side of things.

(I'm not comparing Alaba and Fernandinho by the way, only the role i think he could play)

We would still have Nasri , Silva, Fernandnho, Delph , Ihenacho, Otamendi , Mangala to add to the above
