Pete The Badge Q&A

I saw him against Norwich getting his butty box going over by the stewards at the table outside the turnstiles. He was also there yesterday. Crying shame if he had to give it up due to the cost of travel etcetera. He's a character who's been there through the bad times, I sometimes wish the club would help out and treasure these people a bit more before they're gone forever.
I'm sure if someone set up a go fund me type thing Blues would.chip in to cover his travel.

He also told me he stays overnight in Blackpool after night games because there is no train home and a B+B is cheaper there than Manchester. The club has information on everyone, surely people like him that have been going for over fifty years they could help a little? I know they do reduced seasoncards at sixty five but some help for people like Pete the badge would go a long way. That's what supporters services should be doing.

Free season ticket for him?

i know there are supporters who have been just as committed and maybe more but not many put it on the line like he has over the years , copped tremendous stick, maybe some dicey situations, all for the love of the blues

thats about 1 hour on the train to blackpool, plus the expense of getting there too
Does he know there is a cheap travelodge on the tramline going to ashton, tram stops right next to it( about 100yards ),
midweek it would be cheaper too

I don't know I only speak to him very occasionally if I see him and he's ameniable. He's getting on a bit in years and although I travelled with him a few times on the London trains it was years ago so I don't think he remembers me. Obviously you don't forget Pete lol.

I walked back with him a small part of the way. Apparently he may have to give his season ticket up as he travels from London at the expense is getting too much.
Been looking for weeks to see when Avanti trains will be offering advance tickets for the Chelsea game (A). Don't seem to be offering them unless you travel at 05:25 for £61.60 and then you don't arrive back in Manchester until midnight. Bring back Virgin Trains. Used to do London return for £33 with lots of train choices.

I use(d) them for home games from MK, and I don't think it's Avanti that is the issue, I think it's more covid related, ie nobody used trains for months and months, and so they're trying to recoup the money they lost, they hadn't been doing it that long before covid, was it 12 moths ?

Avanti had good deals coming north pre covid, perhaps not quite as good as some of the virgin ones, and with virgin, if you had a season card you got an extra 25% off some trains.

I've not even looked this season so far, couldn't do Norwich, and didn't want to be saddled with a train full of that lot on Saturday either.

Have you tried Trainline ? Avanti didn’t have the timetable options but Trainline did. I booked a few weeks ago on the 7.55.

Cheers, I have avoided Trainline because they have a charge but will look at it in future

Agree it is possibly Covid related to a certain extent but why they say they offer advance fares and even tell you to click a box if you want information as to when they are available, then nothing, beggers belief!

To be fair "when they are available" is the clue, they don't have to tell you if they're not available, currently they're not, but I think they'll need to incentivise eventually, a carriage with 80 seats, only 10 filled at £40 single = £400, a carriage with 80 seats filled at £20 = £1600, unfortunately at the moments lots are travelling for all kinds of reasons, lets see where they are in January ?

Anyway we're getting away from Pete, who it will be sad if he can't go, and to a degree I share a similar problem, but luckily I can drive, but I hate it, 2 years ago the train was cheaper most of the time, and it was far more comfortable/relaxing.
