Villa fan here, I'd like to say thanks very much, your club did you proud today. Nice touch. Shame your scummy neighbours couldn't have had more respect instead of, on 19 minutes, singing songs about winning 19 titles.

they also sang that they wished petrov was dead. classless bastards.

Think you've heard wrong there mate, the same vile rumours were started about our fans aft the league cup tie. Hate United but I'm pretty sure that's bull shit.

Thanks, City. You're the only club in the Premier League to have done this and it was a wonderful touch. Always nice to see football fans unite and on behalf of AVFC and Petrov, thank you. It was a lovely moment.

It's this sort of thing that shows us all that in the grand scheme of things, football becomes insignificant in comparison and we should show our support, no matter how small it may seem, for a fellow human and his family when fighting the biggest battle of their lives. I'm sure everyone in that stadium today was together in wishing Petrov a successful recovery, no matter what team we supported.

Only the rags could applaud someone negatively for being diagnosed with cancer, well done blues for showing some respect!

Don't be too harsh on clubs that don't applaud back: most people just don't know what you're doing. In the league cup game the Villa fans applauded on 19 minutes, to the bemusement of the City fans, who did not reciprocate (myself included). Then after the minute was up Villa started singing "no respect my lord, no respect" - but it wasn't a lack of respect it was just ignorance. I'm sure most people would applaud if they knew the cause.

Really touching moment today to see the whole stadium joining together for something much bigger than a football match. Best wishes to the guy.

I expect to read this today:
"with City struggling to break down Villa's stubborn defence, they sank to a new low by putting a picture up of Villa captain Stillian Petov on the big screens in attempt to distract their opponents."

On a serious I'm sure I saw Petrov outside the ground with his wife and daughter.
He may be a top footballer, but first and foremost he's a Dad and a husband.
I hope and pray he makes a full recovery. Everyone seems to think the world of this guy including Barry and Milner.
What City did yesterday was fantastic and showed the club to be a class above off the pitch.

If an Villa fans come on this thread today can I ask how is he doing ? I presume you get updates, I know all of us wish him well and hope he back soon so if you do know what stage he is at please let us know.

... and if I can I'd like to recognise a special moment of football unity between City and Villa fans.

I was quite touched by the way the Villa fans acknowledged our effort.

Genuine respect for Villa (they are a club very similar to ours) and I hope they keep this young squad together and stay in the PREM because they can go paces (look at their excellent performance last week).

Good Luck!!
