Phil Brown's left hull

Dean Windass increases pressure on Phil Brown at Hull City - Ben Smith

Dean Windass, the former Hull City striker, has increased the pressure on Phil Brown by calling for the club to sack him as manager.

Windass, who left Hull in January after scoring the play-off goal that sent the club into the Premier League, said a fresh approach is needed at the KC Stadium after a poor start to the season.

Brown helped Hull to escape relegation from the Barclays Premier League in May but eight points from ten games this season have left the club in the relegation zone with only Portsmouth and West Ham below them in the table.

"I think sometimes you need a fresh change," Windass said. "Phil's done a fantastic job since he's been there but I think it's time that he should get moved on and bring somebody else in.

"It's going to be difficult [for the club to stay up]. They're not getting results and they're struggling to score goals at the moment. They need a ten to 15 goal-a-year striker to get away from the bottom of the table. They've got a little mini-league at the moment and it's important they win games against teams in and around their league."

Speculation has been mounting over Brown's position at the club throughout the day, with some reports claiming the 50-year-old was on the brink of being sacked.

However, Hull have issued a firm "no comment" to the reports which they describe as "pure speculation". The club expect Brown to take training as usual tomorrow morning.

Adding to the tension concerning Brown, apparently Adam Pearson the Derby Chairman has Left Derby County this evening. If you remember.Pearson left his position as Leeds United's commercial director in 2001 to purchase Hull City and take over as Chairman. At the time, Leeds were one of the country's most ambitious, big-spending Premiership clubs, while Hull were in administration and languishing at the wrong end of the bottom division of the Football League. But by the time Pearson left Hull in 2007, he had seen Hull promoted twice, moving up to the Championship, and Leeds relegated twice, dropping down to League One, the division below.
