I know I'm missing the point of this thread somewhat but, how can a man referee a sport of elite athletes with a fucking beer gut?

Seriously, he's an embarrassment to his profession and the sport in that physical condition.

He has passed the relevant fitness tests and i am led to believe he finished 4th in the long distance run.

However, he had a very bad game last night. Got both the penalty calls wrong and even managed to caution Kolarov for having the audacity to be fouled by Henderson. Replay showed he won the ball and was then clattered by Henderson.
.
The fitness test was for all premiership officials, 20 refs and 90 assistants. All i was saying was don't judge him by how he looks. I am as pissed off as anyone with the way things have been going for us with officials. They say these things even themselves out well in my opinion our last 3 reds were undeserved. Balotelli and Lescott should both have been sent off against Spurs but how the FA can charge one and not the other. The witch hunt of Mario is verging on the criminal. Just say it as i see it.

Steady on richard, you are beginning to sound like you are on our side.........for a change, that fucking incompetent fool fucked up again last night, and another ie;Peter Walton is waiting in the wings for our next venture.

I know you refs stick together, but your brigade piss me off big time, none more so than with all recent events,so basically I couldnt give a flying fuck if he passed the relevant tests, its obvious he must have, and 4th in a long distance run isnt that great considering there was only 5 in it.....the guy is a complete fool who needs to go back to the classroom and learn the fucking rules again,(if he ever knew em in the first place that is)

I'm stunned that he finished 4th out of 110!
That may well say more about the fitness and speed of the other 106 than about Phil Dowd?
(Out of nerdy interest, who were the top 3?)

Anyway........

Putting that aside, he was right there to see the "handball" so he can obviously get around the pitch alright. He just seems incapable of making the correct decisions when he gets there.

Prestwich Blue posted this on another thread - I think a journalist friend of his sent it to him. Hopefully, he won't mind me posting it here ;o)

Press release from the Football Association:

Having reviewed video evidence of last night's Carling Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Manchester City, the referee, Mr Phil Dowd has reported that he didn't see the ball hit Micah Richards' foot and rebound onto his arm, which was not above his head. If he had done, he has indicated that he would have not given a penalty.

As a consequence, the FA has decided to charge Mr Dowd with being a fat, blind, incompetent twat and has issued a punishment involving refereeing four games where they want a specific result that may involve dodgy penalties.

Mr Dowd has until 5pm tomorrow to appeal this verdict but he has indicated that he will not, as he is indeed a fat, blind, incompetent twat.

End of press release (Issued on 26 January 2012 at 16:00pm for release at 17:00)

Dowd is a 'homer' ref. He makes his decisions quickly and dramatically, almost in a rush it seems to please the crowd.

He simply does not seem to possess the mental strength/ backbone that Mike Dean has for example.

Dowd is a diva who looks third rate next to the calm and assured Dean who takes the extra few seconds on the big decisions.

I think that young, tall gangly ref (can't remember his name) will turn into a good un too. Not afraid to make tough decisions against the vogue.

Jesus listen to you lot, every single one of you have watched this on how many replays to come to your decision? He got it wrong, yes. But at full speed even I thought "He may well give that". I didn't spot the ricochet off the foot at full speed, niether did any of the commentary team, until the first replay. I don't think Dowd did either.

As I say, he got it wrong but he only gets to see it once at full speed. Not that easy. He's probably the first one to have looked at replays after the game and thought "I've got that wrong".
These are the posts that make me laugh. In your opinion, just so I can put this to bed, do you believe that all these decisions (not just the Dippers, you know what I'm taking about) have all been down to 'He got it wrong'? Yes, we all know he got it wrong, he must know he got it wrong, but why do they keep getting it wrong?

And seeing as he clearlly got the Kolarov yellow wrong, please explain how he could?

There has also got to be reciprocity, if Webb can say retrospectively that if he had seen the incident he would have sent Mario off then why cannot Dowd hold his hands up ( he was able to do it the other night with a smirk on his face) and admit that he wrong on three major decisions.

it didn't have nearly the consequence but the yellow card on Kolarov was just as bad. Henderson goes in high and hurts himself yet Kolarov gets the blame. A very poor performance from Dowd and you can tell from his body shape he is not fit to referee at the highest level.
