Unless we've got a plan to really slowly wean him into the team over the next 3 years I am of the belief this kid is 100% in need of a loan at some point.

He's tiny. You look at all the small players in the league (specifically the English one) who are really good, they're either very fast (eg Sterling) or very tough (Tevez) or some combination. Even players like Silva had to adapt to the league for a while, just look at how much more aggressively he plays compared to when he first showed up (Aguero too).

When the youth team lost to Chelsea in the cup it was difficult at times. I said then that the main reason they had such an edge over City was that their players were definitely ahead in terms of physical development and when you combine that with their already good players it meant City were chasing shadows much of the time. Which sucked because City tried to play the more sophisticated football but Chelsea just breezed by regardless. Foden was a player who suffered greatly, because even though his talent was so clear, especially in the first leg, he struggled (so did the whole team but don't want to you to think he was alone there).

Point being, when you look at how teams like Chelsea, United Tottenham are set up, as well as almost all the teams below Everton, you see how physical it is going to be in the Premier league. Now if Foden's struggling against well developed 16-18 year olds at Chelsea, think what a fully grown team would do to him. Sure he'd have the protection of his teammates, but as we saw in preseason (Madrid/Tottenham) it's not enough. {I know he did well v United but that was outr first game, it really lacked in intensity like a proper game would}

He needs the exposure of playing against grown men if he's going to be ready. It's sad but it's indicative of the nature of the league in that sense. It's also sad because normally talented 17 year olds are missing that bit of nous or tactical acumen (like Sancho) when it comes to the step up. That's normally why young players get loaned out in the first place (excluding the ones who are just being 'farmed' somewhere obviously) But the only thing he's got against him is he's built like a 17 year old..

ps With Diaz, he's so fast and agile you'd think he'd get by a little better at least against the bigger players, enough to not need the loan. Like Sterling maybe

This whole argument falls flat on his face because we saw him hold his own physically against United, Spurs, Real Madrid and West Ham. He wasn't bullied because of his size in those games, and every day he's going to be getting a bit stronger, a bit bigger.

Only on Bluemoon would you get news about Guardiola thinking Foden is first team ready this season, he plans to use him, and it being met with posts about how he should be loaned out to play in a farmer's field for a few years.

He should be brought in when we're a few goals up for little cameo's, when the game is winding down, 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there, start a few cup games, drip feed him into team and he'll adapt to the physicality like every other player who didn't arrive in the league 6ft tall and 15 stone.

There is no point whatsoever loaning this player out.
He is sheer class.and has his tutor right here beside him
He is ready to start a game ,imo.other players will learn from him.
He is that good...at The Art of Passing, quickly and accurately
Exactly what a Pep midfielder is all about.
I cant see him going anywhere but the City first team.

Absolutely spot on.every word.

You ve put so much effort into this post.
But said nothing of any note.at all.

Phil has that burst of pace on the turn, he might be slight but he's tough, this next 12 months he will fill out and he's going to be a fcuking superstar for us, one of our own and hopefully Tommy Doyle will be in the side with in in 2/3 years time.

As much as I think the officiating in the PL is atrocious and we are generally treated poorly...being an English kid I could see the refs protecting Foden pretty well. It's the flip side of their obvious bias.

Foden's too young to be loaned out this season. He'll stay with the club playing a mix of junior and senior games. He might be loaned out in 12 month's time but it it could be that by then the club decide he's an exceptional talent capable of playing a significant number of games for the first team and needs to stay at the club. I agree that in a year's time he needs to be playing regular adult football.

Yeah, I think that might happen. He won't get enough minutes with the first team, despite what we might hope. I think this is a season too early for young players to feature prominently. Even a six month loan down the line just to get him that exposure would do wonders.

That was the first line of my original post that you replied to. Wouldn't that suggest I'm in favour of him sticking around and getting a few minutes here and there to adapt over the years until he's ready?

The whole point of my post was to explain why a loan would be good if City were NOT going to do as you suggested. You know, in a hypothetical kind of way. You would have saved yourself a post if you had just read the first sentence!

He only really impressed vs United. He was unfortunately rather anonymous in the later games, although something tells me you'll disagree with that. You're right though he wasn't bullied, just completely bypassed. Similarly to much of the youth cup final vs Chelsea.

Only on Bluemoon would you get news about Guardiola thinking Foden is first team ready this season, he plans to use him, and it being met with posts about how he should be loaned out to play in a farmer's field for a few years.

And only on Bluemoon would you have a poster completely exaggerate and misconstrue a simple post about the benefits and needs for a loan or two as a plan B option and turn it into a post about ignoring what Guardiola's saying and sending him away to play with the cloggers.

You think he was anonymous and passed by in the other 3 games....yeah I think I'm done with this conversation.

If that point alone merits ignoring everything else...

It does because it's complete and utter bollocks, you seem to have not even be watching the games, so why would I want to discuss them with you?

You think sending a 17 war old kid to get hacked down by the knees in league 2 is a good idea, which is bad enough, but obviously you aren't seeing what I am if you think he was bad in the other games.

Or what Guardiola saw apparently, given the news yesterday about him being kept in the squad because he's deemed first team ready.
