Very good question.
Perhaps the posters who have watched him for the past 5 yrs can offer a more informed opinion on this point, but i have been most imprsssed when watching Foden in a deeper ,base of central midfield role, where he has looked extremely comfortable at taking the ball from anyone on his side and immediately moving the ball onto a ream matd in space with the minimum fuss and maximum precision.ive never seen this in a player so young, altho other posters have said Wilshire at arsenal also had this degree of composure when he first burst onto the scene. The additional aspect to this first time passing ability is that absolutely anybody in the same team as Foden can ....and should, expect a pass from him ,due to the uncsnny knack he has of being aware of where all his team mates are on the pitch, without apparently looking...a wondeful skill to have, which of course automaticaaly means you have a real confidence in your own ability to control a ball instantly, whatever angle of play you recieve it.
The second characteristic of his deep central ,midfield role is that, should no obvious passing option present itself,he is more than capable of weighing this up in an instance, and automatically decides to make ground, with the ball seemingly tied to his feet, from central midfield to a more advanced posistion, to cause damage further upfield, and at the same time encouraging forward players ahead of him to find new space,in an attacking position to recv the ball from Foden.
He reminds me of a young Liam Brady ,rather than Wishire,i have decided, for the latter displayed a more rugged robust side to his game ,from day one, rather than the ultimate composed midfield artist that Foden resembles.
The fact that he showedc real promise in a wider role for England is of course another string to the artists bow.
